Question about Empire Flooring-- AND, Prefinished vs Laminate Wood Floors
I have seen some negative posts on here-- nothing specifically, but I get the sense they don't have the best rep.
Anyway, we are considering pulling up the carpet in the family room, which is in the basement as several specialists have recommended against having carpeting in there for mold reasons (we have a bit of mold in a closet down there, so I have had a few people in to assess). If we do it, I just want something hassle free and to be over soon-- plus they always seem to have these specials going on.
Anyway-- just really curious at this point.
Also-- what's the price and look difference with prefinished floors vs laminate? We have hardwoods throughout the house-- but for the basement, I am thinking something easy and less expensive at this point is the way to go. Thanks!

we put in the prefinished floors - we got them from lumber liquidators - much cheaper than any where else and they look great and are easy to install - they are more expensive than laminate but can be sanded down and refinished if necessary
also i would make sure to get a dehumidifier in the basement

IDK but does prefinished expand in moisture? That might not be ideal in a basement.

My Dh says you should never put wood on concrete. I heard this on Holmes on homes as well. LOL

You can put regular hardwood on concrete. They need to lay plywood and a special moisture barrier before wood.
You can either glue a prefinished floor to concrete or use a floating floor. We have both regular hardwood over slab and prefinished hardwood floating floor. We bought a high end prefinished floor and it can be refinished a few times, but it gets damaged easily. There a number of gashes in the floor where my DD has dropped toys. There are no gashes on the regular hardwood.
