question about follies

following up on the 3 - 5 mature follies Kara and Lisa have.

Is that the normal / expected / goal number? I think I had that many with IUI from clomid, so why do I now need to do the injections?

Re: question about follies

Well, I am a poor responder, and Kara has high FSH,so we are not the norm.

My clinic likes to shoot for 10, though I know people who get a lot more.

Re: question about follies

I am also a poor responder and had about that many.

However, that being said. That is awesome that you get that many with Clomid for IUI. I am not sure I would want more follies than that for an IUI as the risk of multiples skyrockets. With IVF they can control how many embies they put back. With IUI you dont have that control. If you make that many mature follies I am surprised your clinic will do an injectable IUI (unless they are aiming for quality and just plan to cancel you if you have too many).

Re: question about follies

Yup - high FSH means that your ovarian reserve is so low -- 3 is actually a pretty good number. For my previous IUI and attempted IUIs, I wound up all 3 times with either a cyst or just 1 follie.

My clinic follows a protocol that is longer time-wise - my follicles develop more slowly but supposedly they are trying for higher quality.... we shall see.....

Re: question about follies

My RE has told me the injectable follies are better quality then Clomid /natural ones. I didnt care to ask why, but you may wanna ask since your curious if this is true.

Also at IUI time did you have that many?

For me I started this month on a higher dose of injectables for IUI...I had 8 good sized follies to begin with and about 7-8 small ones. From the 8 we saw on cd 3-5, I ended up with 3 at the end.

Not all follies will mature at the same rate, and some could be cysts.
