Question about home inspection

Did anyone tip the person that did the home inspection? My husband thinks this is a good idea, me not so much.

Re: Question about home inspection

Nooooooo!

I'd also worry about what that could imply about the inspection / report / etc. Maybe I'm overly cautious, but I wouldn't tip!

Re: Question about home inspection

I asked my Dad, because he's known my inspector for a while, and he said no.

My sister has used him three times already and hasn't tipped him, and he's totally cool with it.

I too would be a little cautious of someone who expected to be tipped.

They get paid well for what they do...I wouldn't tip. It can imply things.

Re: Question about home inspection

Also, on some levels, they may find it insulting. If you are using a licensed PE or RA, they would NEVER expect a tip. They get paid very well and are white collar professionals, so they don't get tipped.

ETA - FH is an engineer (though not a home inspection kind!) and just informed me that PEs would NEVER be allowed to take a tip. It would be construed as a bribe and they could lose their license. It's likely the same for RAs.

I know some people who don't use a PE or an RA, but just use a home inspector - it may be the same for them.

Re: Question about home inspection

We didn't and were told by our RE agent that a tip is neither customary nor expected.

Why tip when you are paying hundreds of dollars for an inspection?

Re: Question about home inspection

no tips but after he inspected 2 houses for us in the same day we took him out to the diner for lunch. He was my cousin's friend and my cousin was also with us.

We had time to discuss both homes and got his personal opinion.

He was really honest too. The home we bought needed so much more attention than the other but he also loved our house..

It was nice to get a personal opinion, not just an inspector's opinion.

Yeah, figures we bought the house that needed more work..
