question about leasing cars - please help.
I am seriously considering leasing the lexus rx350. I went to a dealership yesterday - they quoted me a price. Then they quoted me a lower price if I take the car from their inventory. THEN they quoted me a bottom line price if I sign today.
I didn't sign - I went home and called other dealerships to get quotes. They were all in the same price range except one dealership who was about $40 less - which is GREAT except now I feel like there is a catch?!
How do I know what a good deal is and when I am actually getting the best price...it's so confusing!!! Any advice?

Re: question about leasing cars - please help.
you should not negotiate on a monthly payment ever.
Go to edmunds.com and price the car out. You want to pay no more than invoice price.
Using that price go to the dealer and get a quote. Get it in writing. If they won't put it in writing, leave and go elsewhere.
That monthly payment is based on the price of the car. It's not arbitrary.
HTH!
Great car BTW.

I just turned in my RX330 about a month ago. There buy out prices at the end of the lease are a rip-off and they try to rip you off with their service too. Be careful!

I agree with this, and you can always ask them to see the invoice too; you're entitled to see that. Also, don't trust any quotes over the phone....they just want to get you in the door first. Good luck to you!

There is nothing wrong with getting quotes and negotiating over the phone, just as long as you get it in writing.
I love to haggle with these guys on the phone because they lose their "homefield advantage" knowing I can just hang up the phone whenever I want.
If they quote you something over the phone and you like the quote, tell them to put it in writing. Fax you over a purchase order for the deal so you can review it.

I agree with this. If the dealership won't, then thank them and go somewhere else.

Yes, pretty much what I was getting at....of course if you discuss it over the phone and then still get it in writing then that's perfect. I just meant that don't believe the "deals" they're giving you over the phone (without getting it in writing) b/c once you walk in a say "well so&so told me this much" they'll say otherwise.

Re: question about leasing cars - please help.
ill be going on my 3rd lease
yes you CAN negotiate the lease price
make sure they are including
-free servicing throughout the lease - or taking it out to be cheaper monthly number
-what is the down payment based on? are they including all costs? tax, title fees etc? ( if you keep the licence plate on the old car and put it on the new car , you can save a teeny bit on licence fee)
-are they pricing the same exact car and options ? there are different packages, options, paint colors (metallic ) etc.
-some dealerships offer incentives and programs that others do not
get your best quote in writing and show it to the delrship you want- and ask them to match it- they probably will if they want your business
i priced my audi at 4 dealerships, the one i went with was $50 a jmonth cheaper than the rest and totally legit

Re: question about leasing cars - please help.
Make sure all of the info is on the same level when comparing
same car same mileage same terms
you CAN negotiate the price of the car, just watch what the final sale price is,. sometimes that gets jacked up to make up for the lease deal, but that's if you plan to buy it. But everything is negotiable....
