Spinoff to my DIY Sheetrock question
now i feel like a schmuck. can someone explain the process of hanging sheetrock? you guys are mentioning taping and i have no idea what you're talking about.

hee-hee. never really saw the word "schmuck" in letteres before.
"Tape" is what goes in between the pieces of sheetrock so that you do not see a "seam" in between. Once this is done, then you spackle over it. then you sand, spackle, sand spackle. This is to give the walls a clean, non-bumpy, seamless look.
ETA: It doesn't go "in between", rather on top. It get's rid of the seam.

When you hang shreetrock (hang means screw it to the wall or ceiling) you have to finish all of the seams so that the sheets blend and look as though they are one piece and also fill in all of the screw holes. tape goes between the sheets and Joint compound goes above and below this tape to form a solid bond. sounds simple, but to get the wall completely smooth with no visible seams is a real gift.
