Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
I had my 24 week appointment today and the doctor said that based on the fundal height, I'm measuring at 26 weeks -- she's estimating this baby will be around 9lbs. at birth (also based on DH's birth weight).
For those of you who measured several weeks ahead, did you end up having larger babies??

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
They are truly Guesstimates IMO!! They told me there was NO way my daughter would be over 5lbs-- she was 8 13. They predicted my son to b over 10lbs he was 8 03. I don't believe them.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
they told me DS was "off the charts" and was so far over 8 pounds they couldn't measure him.
he was born at 6pounds, 15.8 ounces. they were WAY off.

thats a HUGE difference! Did they do this with a growth sono, or just measuring your belly?
Apparently my OB doesnt do growth sonos at all unless they estimate the baby over 10 lbs.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
I wouldn't put too much stock into the baby's weight.......you have so much longer to go. That being said, I was measuring ahead from 27 weeks on because of my GD. At just over 38 weeks they measured DD at 9 1/2lbs. and they were estimating that if I went to term she would be over 10lbs. She was born at exactly 39 weeks and was 8lbs. 8oz.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
well everyone and their mother told me how off they are and how i was carrying so well and there was no way they were right......i measured a couple of days ahead at the level II but they said that things change and they werent concerned.....fast forward to my first internal exam when the doc measured my belly and said jen were not dealing w a lil 6lber here and i was like she then proceeded to write a request for me to get a growth sono....had it done and they measured dd at 8lbs 8oz at 36wks......dd was born at 39w3d...9lbs2oz
bottom line the sonos can be + or - 1lb....so it can be more than what they guessimate or less....everyone told me less and the thing is i think the sono/docs were actually right on the ball for me.....but i wished i wouldve prepared myself to believe that they might just be right and i might just be having a big baby....i kept believing and telling myself no theyre probably off which in the end didnt prepare me for the fact that a big baby was a possiblity and the factors that went along with that.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
The doc never said I was measuring ahead, but they all estimated her to be over 9lbs at birth and they were close-- she was 8lbs 9oz! Now at 1 month, she is over 12 lbs!

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
Yes DD measured ahead for most of my pregnancy and she was 9lbs 4 ozs at 38 week 4 days. This one at my 22 week sono was measuring 2 weeks ahead. I will know if she is still measuring ahead at my growth sono on Wed. But I was told to expect that there was a good chance this one could be 10lbs early.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
I was also told they could be way off. Mine were scary accurate.
He was born at 38 weeks and measured 11 1/2 pounds.
And I did not have GD.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
I was measuring very big the last few months. They never specifically said how many days or weeks ahead though. I had to have a few growth sonos at the end. They even told me I had to change my eating habits or I would end up with a 10lb baby...Rylan ended up being 7lbs 6oz...not big at all.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
I was measuring 2-3 weeks ahead once I started having growth sonos later in my pregnancy. On one growth sono however, they said my DS was less than a week ahead. I'm not sure what happened with that one. Basically, everyone thought the baby could not be that big b/c of the way I was carrying. The day they decided to induce me, he measured at 8 lbs, 13 oz. He was born at 8 lbs., 14 oz. So they were right on (LIJ).

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
I won't beleive them next time. I was told that the baby was DEFINITELY going to be way over 10 lbs. I cried - literally! She would up being 9.7. Still big, but definitely not wayyy over 10 lbs!

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
I had a sono the morning that I went into labor with DS and they said that he was 9 lbs 7 oz and they wanted to induce me. I went into labor that night and he was 8 lbs 7 oz. They never really know for sure.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
I measured ahead and was HUGE at the time I gave birth. In fact, even while I was delivering, my doc swore he was going to be over 9 pds. He ended up being a normal 8pds. 4 oz.

Re: Question about "measuring big" during pregnancy
at 32w DS was measuring over 6lbs and at 36w was measuring 8lbs, 5oz. Needless to say they thought he was going to be big. He was born at exactly 40w (Dr's did not want me to go even a day passed my due date) at 9lbs 10oz.
