Re: Question about naps and getting out of the house...
Before DS was in a set routine and still napped alot I would just go out and do what I had to do, if he got crabby we would leave. I also made sure I was always prepared with a bottle too!
Once his routine got settled into 2 naps per day I worked aroudn his schedule! We would go out around 11 and be home by 2:30 so it didnt disrupt him.
Once he turned a year I felt like I needed to do more WITH him. So we started going out in the Am IF there was something I wanted us to do. If he slept in teh car great if not that was fine too, but we were always home for his PM nap.
Now DS is such a flexible napper. If we got out in the AM i put him in for a nap at 2:30 if we are home I put him in at 12:30...he just does with the flow now.
I think its important to keep the noise level up somewhat during the day. If not you become a prisioner to the naps and you cant do anything! DS used to need it quiet to sleep but I would go nuts because I was nervous to even walk past his room. Slowly I started raising hte noise level during his naps and now I can vacuum and he wont wake up!

Re: Question about naps and getting out of the house...
Ds is not a napper. He will sleep in the car seat and/or stroller so getting out of the house to do errands isn't a big deal. Whether he's sleeping in a crib, swing or stroller, I don't mind.

Re: Question about naps and getting out of the house...
I always went out after they took their 1 nap which was around 9am. If they happened to sleep in the car that was great if not it wasn't a big deal. When we would get home it was usually time for another nap. I had this schedule more with DS. DD would take 3 good naps for me so I tried to do my errands in between which wasn't a big deal since everything is close to me.
That was probably the only schedule I stuck to was napping. My kids never slept in the stroller. DD would nap in the car.

Re: Question about naps and getting out of the house...
For DD's morning nap I make sure I am home. For her it's her most important nap of the day so I don't mess with it. In the afternoon I do my thing so if I need to go out and run errands or be somewhere DD has to just adjust and sleep while we're out and about. So far it works for us.

My personal feeling is that their sleep is MOST important- so I schedule everyday activities/errands around their schedule. With 2 it often means I don't get to run errands until 3pm. I personally don't believe a child gets "good" sleep from a stroller or carseat.
That said, I AM very flexible for special reasons like parties, playdates, appointments, etc. One or 2 days of a screwy schedule won't hurt them.
i agree for the most part with the exception of - when she did nap in the car seat, I let her. So if i was out running errands and she fell asleep, that was her nap. But I didnt do that on a daily basis
She doesnt fall asleep in the car seat anymore so I schedule outings around her nap schedule.
I am also very flexible for parties, appts, family days at my parents, etc

when DS was younger he really, really needed to nap, so i would try to work around his schedule. however if i knew i was going to be in the car i didn't worry - he slept well in the car so i just put him in the infant carrier.
This is us and she will sleep in her stroller as well, sometimes better than in her own crib

I never cared. Is that awful of me? I just went about my day and my business and lugged her everywhere with me. If she was tired, she'd just fall asleep in the car or the stroller. I'm an on the go kind of person, and I really wanted her to just go with the flow. And she got with the program quickly
Ditto for all 3 of my kids
