Question about OPK results

So, tonight for the first time I saw a faint line-- perhaps I didn't wait long enough before, but saw a faint line tonight.

I know that a faint line is still a negative result, but does even the presence of a faint line mean that ovulation is imminent??

I have also been getting slight twinges of cramp like feelings over the last 36 hours or so.

Help me Obi Wan(s).

Re: Question about OPK results

What cycle day are you today? And did you use afternoon urine?

Re: Question about OPK results

I am on CD15-- I tend to have longer cycles though.

I usually test at 7 30 PM. I try not to drink for the hour or two before-- but, I drink a ton of water every day.

Re: Question about OPK results

I got a faint line for about a week before the positve. But you really have to not pee or drink for like three hours before the OPK or it can be too diluted. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is IMPOSSIBLE for me-- why would have I have to hold it in?? Isn't the concentration the same, if I stop drinking water at a certain time??

Re: Question about OPK results

I tend to get cramps before Oing. I test in the morning b/c of that, this way I haven't drank anything. Maybe try that. I used them for the first time last month and I saw faint lines before and then when it finally was dark I saw the difference. Keep at it, maybe try the morning?

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't know why but I think the directions say hold it for 3 to 4 hours before hand. You want really yellow peeChat Icon . What do you mean by cramps. Do you mean that sharp O pain or more like AF cramps. I get Sharp O pains before and during O and Af like cramps (very slightly) after O. At least I think. I don't temp so I guess I don't really know. I hope that helps. This OPK stuff is very confusing.
ALso my line didn't gradually get darker. It was a light line that was about the same give or take a few shades for a week and then BAM it was positive. And the positive was weird. It was only positive on one side of the line which was apparently normal. I found A TON of useful info about OPK's on peeonstick.com in the OPK section. Re: Question about OPK results

It is possible to get faint lines throughout the month, even when you are not gearing up to O. LH is always present in small amounts. The OPKs detect this LH, but get really dark when there is ALOT of that hormone (which is mass produced before O).

I start POAS at cd11 and always have faint lines at first. Then they'll get dark and then light again.

Re: Question about OPK results

Thanks for responses... I was away and couldn't respond.

Still am seeing faint lines, now on CD20. Although with being away, I was not always testing under optimal circumstances.

I really have a problem with the liquid intake thing--- I drink a ton of water and I am not sure that that may be affecting my results. My period is definitely all over the place still-- and I think I might have O'd on like CD25 last month based on CM-- but who the hell knows. I am seeing my gyno on Tuesday-- so, I am sure she will help me figure this out.

Re: Question about OPK results

Cramping is not a reliable indicator of O-there is no research that I have found that says it indicates one thing or another-It could be the follie growing, the egg releasing, pain from the follicle cyst thats left-there is really no rhyme or reason. Do you get EWCM? If so that is what I use to decide when to start testing. My pattern is I get EWCM around 3 days before I o so that is when I start testing. GL

you really need to hold your urine for 2-4 hours before using the OPK and not drink anything. LH isn't present in high enough concentrations in your urine like HcG is to get a positive if you don't.

what worked for me was to eat lunch, pee, and then not drink anything or pee until i got home from work (usually around 4:30-5pm).

good luck!!
