Question about Progesterone levels (long)
Hoping you girls may know something about this. I went to my Doctor on Friday for the first time, i am 6 weeks, 5 days.
I mentioned to the doctor that i have been getting cramps, so she took blood to check my progesterone levels - she said too low a level could cause miscarriage. So she told me to call back monday for the results. But she gave me a perscription just in case the tests do come back low.
So, i called back today and spoke with some one - not a doc or a nurse who told me my progesterone level was 11.5 and it should be 15. i asked her if that was very low and if i should take my perscription. She told me my doc is out til wednesday, so i should call back then.
I insisted she ask another doc what i should do. the other doc told her to tell me to wait till wednesday for my doc.
So i was just wondering if you girls know anything about progesterone levels. should i be nervous? should i fill my perscription b4 talking to my doc?
TIA!

Re: Question about Progesterone levels (long)
i also had low progesterine in the beginning (it was alike a 9.5 when i was like 4-5 weeks preggos) and i was spotting and cramping and she put me on the progesterine supplements to increase the levels so i wouldnt miscarry. I dont know what to tell you, i understand your concern with waiting a day but i dont know if you should take any meds without your doctors OK, i am sorry

Re: Question about Progesterone levels (long)
Mine was 17 at like 5 weeks and they put me on progesterone just in case. I'd take them if I were you, but your doc will be back wednesday which leaves you with only tomorrow to take one...which I don't think would make much of a difference anyway. But don't worry, if it was seriously low I'm sure they would have told you over the phone.

Re: Question about Progesterone levels (long)
See, this is the kind of thing that makes me angry....you should be able to talk to a Dr. (if not your Dr. then someone who covers for your Dr.) ASAP! This is serious business...what if one day does make a difference? I would demand to speak with someone who can give you medical advice.

I agree. There has to be someone on call who can speak to you. If not, is there a nurse practitioner? Their advice is usually pretty clear and along the same lines as the doctor's advice. I'd be insisting on speaking to a doctor, though.

I know this is another reason i am thinking about switching doctors, i have not been thrilled with her.
I am going to call my sister in laws doctor.

Re: Question about Progesterone levels (long)
You need to go on progesterone supplements ASAP with levels that low. I was on them with a level of 13. Insist on talking to a Dr and get that RX filled immediately. Good Luck

I second this recommendation! I spent many days w/ this doctor - and many phone conversations. He's fantastic.
I hope everything is okay

Re: Question about Progesterone levels (long)
I think you should fill it ASAP. One day CAN make a difference, I know from past experience. You should be on 200 mg 2X a day. FYI for all others progesterone is NOT harmful. It is a natural hormone your body produces and you can not overdose.

Re: Question about Progesterone levels (long)
Please fill that prescription ASAP. My doc suspected I had a chemical pregnancy before and with this one put me on progesterone before doing bloodwork as a precautionary. Turns out I didnt need it but better safe.....

Re: Question about Progesterone levels (long)
i agree with the other posters - go fill and use the progesterone today - progesterone is something that your body produces - that helps support a pregnancy - if your numbers are low - it will not hurt anything
i too had low progesterone levels and was spotting - my level was 14 - the lowest that my dr said that they wanted to see was 15 - so she prescribed the progesterone....
i am now 14 weeks and fine..

Out of curiosity, after you took progesterone did you still spot for a few days? How long in total did you spot for? TIA

fyi - I spotted brown before and after the progesterone (the same amt)...I spotted from week 5 to like week 10 ...if I remember correctly. It lasted a long time and finally stopped on its own.
