Re: Question about resumes
I've been told by recruiters that after college, no you don't need them and they are just for when you graduate.

Re: Question about resumes
I don't think you need one per se-- but I have one. I added it after a meeting with a career counselor. I think it's a great way to sum up who you are-- so mine is a summary, not an objective.

Re: Question about resumes
when I got my Masters at Dowling they said no. Everyone has the same objective - to get a job - and it was viewed as unnecessary filler.

If I knew I'd tell you. I've been pounding the pavement for over a month and it's been awful.

Re: Question about resumes
yes, I would put one. Don't forget, Gail, don't "sell" yourself too much. Let your experience and skills sell you. I hope that makes sense, but Iknow that is what my company looks for when they are hiring. They disregard people who sell themselves too much, regardless of their skills.

Re: Question about resumes
I would say an objective wouldn't make a difference to me either way on a resume. It's what's listed under it that counts --- unless of course you've spelled something wrong, then it counts against you.

Re: Question about resumes
Instead of "Objective", I put a "Summary of Qualifications", which give a high level description of my professional experience and skills. It's like 2.5 lines.

Re: Question about resumes
For the longest time I didn't have one because of what recruiters told me. But after going on actual job interviews and having many people ask where the objective was, I put it back on.

Yes, I was going to say Summary too. Objective I would say for recent college graduate or someone who is looking to change fields. The objectove can also be outlined in a cover letter which is always recommended when applying for a position.
