Question about starting milk
Since we are between pediatricians right now and don't see the new one for a nother two weeks I thought I would ask here..
I think I want to start DS on whole milk but I was thinking that I would transition where I maybe at a little at a time to each formula bottle...see how it goes. Since we have the 3 day weekend I thought it might be a good time so that it's not something new when he's at daycare.
Any advice/opinions on this? Any suggestions?

Re: Question about starting milk
My ped said to start at 11 1/2 months by giving one bottle of whole milk a day for three days, then two bottles for three days, etc. until totally on milk. It worked great for Thomas. No problems at all.
Good luck!

Re: Question about starting milk
Just to contradict everyone else
My ped said to follow this schedule:
DAY ONE:
For an 8 ounce bottle: 6oz formula and a SEPARATE 2 oz bottle of milk.
DAY TWO:
For an 8 ounce bottle: 4oz formula and a SEPARATE 4 oz bottle of milk.
DAY THREE:
For an 8 ounce bottle: 2oz formula and a SEPARATE 6 oz bottle of milk.
DAY FOUR:
All milk (assuming he doesn't have any reactions to anything).
He said it was important to separate otherwise they don't get the taste for it.
And he also said we could keep warming up the milk if we wanted (DS will only take warm bottles.)

This is pretty much what I've done...why get complicated? We'll be totally on milk this weekend!!

Re: Question about starting milk
Honestly DD switched without a hitch. I did mix bottles for a few days but before that I had given her straight milk a few times and she was fine with it.

Re: Question about starting milk
When I started the transition the first time, I did 2 oz milk and 4 oz formula. I am not sure if it was a coincidence, but Troy was a MAJOR crab that day. I stopped the milk and wait about 1 1/2 weeks. When I started the 2nd time, I did it 1 oz milk and 5 oz formula. Did that everyday for 1 week. I increased the milk, by 1 oz ad decrease formula by 1 once each week.
As of today, we're are 100% milk. Successfully!
Good Luck

Re: Question about starting milk
My doctor recommended doing part-part until we're at all whole milk. Haven't started that yet, but that's my plan when the time comes (probably a few weeks away).

Same here. I was surprised at how easy the transition was.

Re: Question about starting milk
I think if its a milk allergy you will see it fast. The only bad effect we had wa sthe poop situation and slight diaper rash. My Ped says that almost ALL babies get that at transition and it was not a big deal. For us those two things were barely noticable and wouldnt interfere for you IMO.
Dont wait, I think it will be fine.

Re: Question about starting milk
I started this earlier this week - my dd will be 1 next weekend
In an 8 oz bottle I put 1 oz milk, 7 oz formula. I have done this for a few days and will then increase the milk oz. I did it a bit faster at first but Sarah seemed fussy and really upset so I wonder if her belly was bothering her It doesn't hurt to go slow at first.
