Question about supermarket express checkout lanes

If you have, say, a bag (tied) of six limes, does that count as six items or one?

Cashier has to enter product code only once no matter how many pieces of fruit are in the bag.

Just curious Chat Icon

Thats one. I worked in a supermarket when I was younger. Had a lady with 15 2 liter bottles of diet coke try and tell me, it was ONE because it was all the same. Yeah, no, move over thank you,

Re: Question about supermarket express checkout lanes

Ok THANK you.

The cashier at Waldbaum's in Commack tried to tell me that eat piece of fruit counted as one individual item. Chat Icon Mind you, she didn't say anything until after I had finished paying. In my estimation, I had 15 items (the limit). In her estimation, I had 33. Chat Icon

Re: Question about supermarket express checkout lanes

As someone who works PT in a supermarket, it depends! If you mean the plastic bag that you put 6 items in yourself, then it is 6 items. If you mean a bag that was pre-packaged with the 6 items, then it is one.

I don't get that though. It's in a bag, tied. She put the code in once, and then moved the bag to the bagging area. It's the same as scanning something once, right?

I worked in a supermarket and we weighed each bag of fruit. So each bag of fruit (even if it contained 5 apples) was ONE item (scanned once and listed on the receipt as one item). I think you are mistaken.

Re: Question about supermarket express checkout lanes

limes usually arent sold by weight.
its like 6/$1

my friends fam owns supermarkets and she is currently working as front end manager of one of them so i bbmed her and asked her what she thought
just as i thought she said it would be considered 1 item.
even though they would have to list it as 6 @ the limes code i think theres a different rule for fruit.

i aslo worked at supermarket while most items are by weight some are by quantiy but you still only put one code in and it asks you how many.

Either way i would count that has one and IMO any cashier that counts it as more it just being way to picky and must not liking her job at the moment
