Question about the chicken pox vac.
I have recently heard of many children coming down with the chicken pox this winter. One mom that I know said her two kids were vaccinated by it and came down with it. She said, she as well had the chicken pox when she was a kid and still came down with it again. She heard there is a new strain of the virus.
I also heard that children can come down with a mild case of the chicken pox from the vaccine. My dr. said they give the chicken pox vac at 15 months...
My questions are..
1. If you are going to postpone the chicken pox vac. when are you going to have your dc have it?
2. Have you ever heard of a different strain of the chicken pox virus, where an adult gets it even after they have had it before?
3. Did any mom's find that after they did give dc the chicken pox vac. that there child came down with a mild case of it?
TIA!!

Re: Question about the chicken pox vac.
I don't know anything about a new strain, but I have heard the vax does not give 100% immunity. I'm waiting until DS starts school to give him the shot. Honestly, I would prefer to have him contract chicken pox on his own and develop a solid immunity to it.
The disease is not dangerous to him now, but it would be when he is older. I hate the thought of vaxing him and having him get the disease when he's older (when it actually is dangerous) because the vaccine immunity wore off.

Re: Question about the chicken pox vac.
Thank you Dragonfly75!
I think I am going to wait as well. My other concern was, if there is a different strain out there, being pregnant, if my dd did get a mild case of it from the vaccine, would I be at risk of developing it? Which makes me tend to believe I should not get it while being pregnant.
Did you wait on the MMR shot as well or are you going to have them split it up?
Thank you!!!
