probably overreacting, but chicken pox question
Let's say you might have chicken pox and you wake up with only a few of the little bumps on your face. How quickly would you start to get more bumps to know for sure?
Any surefire way to tell chicken pox from acne? They don't look like typical acne (and I don't generally break out like this)
I had an extremely mild case of chicken pox as a child and later blood tests confirmed I'm not immune...

I high fever should accompany Chicken Pox very soon after seeing the first few pox. You would also notice them on areas where you typically don't get acme like your stomach.

If this isn't chicken pox then maybe you should get the vaccine.

Very long and involed, but I'm actually not a candidate for the vaccine.

everyone I know had their first sign on Chicken pox on the tummy, or butt, or tongue. Somewhere unexpected.

Everything I've read says it usually starts on either the face or the trunk... which is why I haven't ruled it out yet. Everyone I know got them on their face first. So I guess now all I know is that it's inconsistent!
(ETA - The only reason I am worried to begin with is b/c the bumps are under my eye and one under my eyebrow -- not places I'd normally break out)
I'll check my temp in a bit and if I have one, I'll go to the doctor. I just don't want to go in and find out they're pimples. (My wedding's getting close and I know I'm overreacting about a lot of things these days...)

Re: probably overreacting, but chicken pox question
If you are concerned I would just get it checked out. When I had chickenpox as a child I only had 5 dots on my whole body and recent testing showed I am immune. I also didn't have a real fever only 99.8 which tech isn't a real fever.

Oh that is horrible. I had them at 5 years old and I felt really good and my mom told me I kept asking why I couldn't go to school and play with my friends b/c I didn't feel sick.

Sorry!
I haven't met many other Karas in my life, but there's also one other on here -- though her screenname doesn't use Kara.

Chicken pox usually starts on the stomach, then spreads out to the other extremities

Re: probably overreacting, but chicken pox question
Wow...not sure but good luck. I never had them. I get the vaccine every few years...and it's crazy $$$ because it's not covered under insurance and my doctor's office did the test to see if I was still immune, but then didn't offer the shot. I had to go to a clinic.

Re: probably overreacting, but chicken pox question
I took my temperature and have no fever. I'm just waiting it out at this point since (like usual), I am likely overreacting. I figure by the end of the day, it'll be obvious if they're spreading or not. I basically feel fine other than these weird bumps.
I am having trouble getting through to the doc's office, but will keep trying. In the meantime, I'm staying away from people at work. (ETA - I have my own office, which makes that easier!)

Re: probably overreacting, but chicken pox question
I got the chicken pox when I was 29 (?!) and my first symptom was a high fever. I remember I was standing in Bath and Body works under an air conditioning vent and I was sweating my butt off!
The bumps didn't show up until the next day, and I first noticed them on my arms.
Have you flown recently (within the past two weeks)? I actually contracted it while I was on a plane. It has a 2-week incubation period before symptoms show up.

How quickly did you see MORE bumps after the initial few?
