question about the "cleaning lady"?
I read the posts about hiring someone and would love to but I dont want one every week. Maybe every other or 1x a month but can a house even survive that with a child? I kinda feel like if shes just coming to mop the floor and dust...well I can do that. Is it really worth it?

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
I think so. She comes every other week and it's great. I still have to sweep and dust in between but she does the real work. It also helps me with tidying up. I will be working full time this sept and don't want to clean when I could spend time with DS.

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
I just started having one- she's going to come once a month. It's good to get the dust out and vacuum. I still have to maintain but don't have to get into all the little corners. It's definitely worth it- it makes a huge difference. I don't have the time (or want to make the time ) to give the house a thorough cleaning.

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
Mine comes 2x per month. I do minor cleaning in between (straightening up, wiping counter tops off)
I have a pretty big house, and I told my husband as I get further along in my pregnancy I may want to have her start coming every week. If not at that time, then definately after the baby is born.

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
I only really clean my house once a month. I will sweep up, vaccuum and wipe down in between but as far as a good cleaning I think you can do once a month if you do small thing in between.

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
Heavy Cleaning-ie: tiles on walls in bathroom, pulling out the stove to clean behind it, moldings, inside oven, outside of cabinets in the kitchen, organizing the closets, etc....
and the heavy stuff you dont have time or the strength to do on a daily basis!
I dont think heavy cleaning is the bathroom, microwave, sinks, and moping floors, how do you not do this at least a couple of times a week?

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
My neighbor (and good friend) does house cleaning. She has a lot of jobs that are 1x per month, every other week etc...
In general you can have them do what you want them to do. Bathrooms, Kitchen, Dust etc....some people maintain during the off time others do not...
She usually comes over and helps me out from time to time..she does a great job...
It's $85 for the first 2 hours and $30 per hour for any additional time. In 2 hours she gets a ton done...she's super quick and super thorough...She gets done in 2 hours what would take me all day!!!

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
We have one 2x a month and it is SOOO worth it. I will occasionally vaccuum and still tidy up everyday. But I refuse to scrub the bathrooms or fully wash the floors( I spot clean both) . As for windows, I never have to wash them. Fully worth it!

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
I'm on the fence. For 5 years I had a woman who was wonderful. She really cleaned. I have a big house and I find that I am constantly cleaning no matter what. While I am something of a clean freak, the people I have tried in the last two years just don't cut it. The going rate for my home is $120. They are usually in and out in three hours. What I find is that even if they come every week, my bathrooms still need to get touched up, my counters done every day and my floors vacuumed and mopped in between. Maybe its the ages of my kids (5 and 10) but people are in and out of my home constantly.
For the last few months, I've been cleaning my own home and frankly its never been cleaner. I've tried to figure out what I'm doing extra since letting the last cleaning woman go and I think it comes down to dusting (which takes me 1/2 an hour a week ( I dust upstairs one week and downstairs the next) and really cleaning the two bath tubs that we use (I have 3 1/2 baths), everything else I was doing in between.
So, I will probably continue to try different people but I'm tired of paying someone who doesn't move my pictures when dusting.
ETA Two of my friends with school age children have recently come to the same conclusion.
ETA To also add, I don't work full time, so I have a little give in my schedule.

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
I have one every 2 weeks. I LOVE IT. She does the big stuff (vacuums, cleans floors, bathrooms, etc.) I just maintain inbetween visits. I spend so much less time cleaning now. I have a 2 story house and I could never keep up with it all and work full time.

Re: question about the "cleaning lady"?
It's one of the best things I've done for myself!!! I am a neat freak... I cannot go to bed without every toy put away, the dishes done and put away, counters all wiped etc.... my house is pretty clean, but I have the cleaning lady come in every other week and she does the scrubbing of floors and bathrooms and vacuuming behind furniture.. the stuff that I was driving myself insane trying to get done on my own before cause I just didn't have the time.
