Re: Question about the Hamptons...
None of the towns have a boardwalk...Southhampton and East Hampton have some high end stores and some cute little shops too. They also have good restaurants.
I'm not sure about hotels...there are some motels and cute bed and breakfasts but I've never stayed in any of them.

Re: Question about the Hamptons...
Ditto re: East Hampton and Southampton. I've stayed at the Dune Deck in Westhampton Beach - not sure about pricing, but I really liked the hotel itself.

Re: Question about the Hamptons...
Sag Harbor is a very happening town right now!
It has some nice restaurants, some unique stores, some decent bars..and its a good "walking town"
The hotels there I would recommend are Sag Harbor Inn or Barons Cove Inn.
They are pricey at this time of year. I am not sure how much you are wanting to spend...
They are both very nuice and very well kept.
(Altho I am bias, I grew up in Sag Harbor, and ahve babysat for people at Barons Cove and Sag Harbor Inn)

Re: Question about the Hamptons...
None of the towns have a boarwalk, but SH and EH have nice shops and restaurants. If you look at Hamptons.com you can look at places to go and things to do. Concerts in the park in SH on Wednesdays. Some local restaurants have two for ones as well. Sag Harbor is a fun town to walk around in, and the have a little wharf for boat glimpsing. HTH
