Question about traveling with infants
I am booking a trip to Jamaica for March 08 for my DH's 30th bday. I will have had the baby by then. How do I go about booking an infant? Do I need his name to reserve a ticket? I will be holding on my lap. Juliette will be 2 and will have her own seat. They don't offer an option for his name when i go to book bc he is not being charged for. Will I still need a ticket?

Re: Question about traveling with infants
No, if it's a lap child you do not need a ticket ALTHOUGH you may need to call the airline and let them know you will have a lap child. Going on SW in September they could care less but on Cayman Airways in Feb I had to pay a $12 lap child fee

Re: Question about traveling with infants
Youl will have to pay taxes on the baby (only for international flights. they don't charge taxes on domestic flights)

You should check into passport requirements. I think you will need a passport for each of your kids.

As soon as you book tickets call the 800 # with your conf #. Tell them you have a lap child. I only paid for a lap kid when we go to Ireland. And that's for taxes.

Re: Question about traveling with infants
Hi Lori, I just took my two boys to Florida last month and they gave us 2 free seats since they were available and because they were under the age of 2.
It was great because we were in first class but they wouldn't let us sit in the same row, they said airline rules. So my DH & Jack sat across from Brady & I.
All you have to do is ask them at the ticket counter when you check in. Tell them you are traveling with an infant.
ETA: When we went to Mexico Jack was 10 months and we didn't have to pay for him and they also gave us a free seat. I think it may depend of the airline.

Re: Question about traveling with infants
I just booked with Expedia and it asked for my DD's name and b-day even though she's lap passenger.
Last time, when I booked with Travelocity, it didn't ask me for her name.
I'd call the airline and make sure they have the child's name and birthdate so you don't run into problems when you are trying to check-in.

Re: Question about traveling with infants
IF the airline has an empty seat, they will let you put your carseat in it. But if the flight is booked, they won't just give you a seat.
I would seriously rethink the lap baby thing. Especially on a four and a half hour flight. Turbulence can be brutal and if you can't hang onto the baby it becomes a projectile in the cabin. Not exactly safe! Many airlines offer half price fares for children under 2.

Re: Question about traveling with infants
We went to Curacao with the baby when he was 3 months old. I am superstitious so I didn't book our flights until he was born so I am not positive on how to "name" the passenger if you don't have a name yet. However, I booked our tickets and we flew using miles. For some reason, whenwe got to the airport, there was no notation of a lap baby. We were flying first class so they waived the baby "tax" that they wusially charge. The flights were pretty empty going down and up so we had an extra seat going each way.
When we went to Florida in February, we flew coach but the flight, again, was pretty empty. The baby had his own seat again.
The gate attendants all love kids and will try to help you out as much as possible.
With anything, if you have any questions or doubts, call the airline. You are so much better off waiting on hold for a little bit now than dealing with all this when you get to the airport.
Regarding the passport situation, get one as soon as the baby is born. Better to be safe than sorry. I think that starting in January you can't even go to Canada without one.

On the extra seat, my DD has taken 6 flights now and only one had an empty seat and that one the passenger moved to another empty seat on the plane. Bring your carseat to the gate(with a click and go its perfect) but don't expect a free seat. I always do for some reason and end up disappointed.
