Question about traveling with the baby
Hi everyone - I'm crashing. I'm 5 months pregnant but I cannot stop trying to figure this question out.
We live overseas in a city where we don't have a car. We're going to buy a car-seat anyways, but my question is what do you do when you travel with the baby?
For example, you fly somewhere far away, and while you're there you need to rent a car or take a taxi or whatever. What do you do with the baby? How does he or she travel? Obviously you can't install the car seat as it should be done, so what is the alternative?
The reason for my question, primarily, is that I'm due in December and in May, we're flying to the States for my sister in law's wedding, where we will have to drive everywhere, and my crazy pregnant brain can't stop trying to figure out what we're supposed to do regarding the baby.
TIA, ladies!

Re: Question about traveling with the baby
Personally, because its such a long flight, I would buy the baby a seat on the plane, and bring the babys car seat.
If you follow directions accordingly you can put the car seat in properly ((even though we got our checked by state police, they said DH did a very good job)). I'm pretty sure I've read on here that they actually recommend someone that comes to you to check the car seat? which I could def. have misread, since I live in NJ, and I wouldn't use someone that far away. Otherwise I would check to see if when you come, if there is a check from the police or somebody.

Re: Question about traveling with the baby
you can rent a car seat when you are here... and some insurance companies will actually lend one out so your family may wantto consider looking into that

Re: Question about traveling with the baby
This is a good one for me to answer. When we came to the US we always brought our Maxi Cosi Cabrio with us because it fit right on my Bugaboo Frog, saying that, its actually illegal to use a UK Car seat in the US and vice versa, they aren't built the same and can be dangerous. I didn't know that when my son was a baby. So going forward I wouldn't do that again. My biggest worry with that was that if we had an accident and my car seat was illegal, my insurance wouldn't pay out.
So flash foward about a year when the kid was a bit bigger, my mother went to BJ's and bought one that cost £99 and we are still using it, when we went to Florida, she bought a booster seat that cost £40. It was money well spent, its actually more expensive to rent a car seat from the rental car company. The one we bought was like this one: FM me if you have any more questions.
When we go to the airport here, we take a Black Taxi, the pushchair goes right into the back of the taxi. We once borrowed a car seat from the AA in Garden City, but the car seat was terrible and I refused to use it.
I have never seen anyone use a car seat on a flight between the UK & the US, we have never used one, just a seat belt.
We just followed the directions on our car seat to install it, we didn't have anyone come to check. No problems so far.
