Question about wake attire and the fire department
DH is in the fire dept, local, not FDNY if that makes a difference, but this is the first time since he has been in it that someone in the fire department has passed away. They were really good friends too... he is devastated.
My question is, he isn't sure if he is suppose to wear his dress uniform to the wake and the funeral. Off course he is going to ask one of the guys but I am trying to get things ready for the family because we both have work today, work opposite schedules so I have a limited time period to get all our stuff together so if anyone knows that could really help me out. Thanks

If they are in the same house he may be part of a ceremony the FD does. They wear their dress uniform. I know they usually only go one night and then to the burial. He can wear a suit the other night(s).

Our FD always has Firematic services at one of the wake times...ususally the evening prior to the funeral. Class A (dress) uniform is required at that time, as well as at the funeral.

They will usually make an announcement what type of uniforms to wear to the Wake - most of the time it is full uniform with white gloves.
Not sure about the funeral, if the department is all going and they are having the "drive by" the fire house, then again full uniform,. toehrwisae a suit.
So sorry for his loss.

My DHs fire department usually announces what the members should wear. If they're doing firematic services one night, which they always do for a member, he'll have to wear his class A uniform. The department usually goes as a united group for that witht he trucks and everything.
