question about water for formula
What kind of water do you use for preparing you LO's formula? When we decided to FF and moved from nursettes to powder, the doctor's office said they prefer boiled water, but that we can use the Brita at room temp as well. When we saw one of the peds on Monday, she said just to use boiled water. So, we boiled water in the tea kettle, and put it in a pitcher, which we left on the counter and use at room temp to make DD's bottles. Now, I'm reading online, and some things say not to leave the water for more than half an hour, and others say to refigerate it, then heat the bottles. I know my SIL just uses nursery water, and I have other friends whose drs allow them to use straight tap water....it's all so confusing!
So, if you boil the water, please share your system/routine. Thanks!

Re: question about water for formula
In queens, I used the Brita filter, on LI we use Poland spring. The water quality in my town is terrible and Brita doesnt filter nitrates

Re: question about water for formula
I boiled the water and put it in a pitcher in the fridge. Limited counter space.
Did that with both kids, no issues.

Re: question about water for formula
We used whatever was convenient.
Tap water can have chemicals, pathogens and solids in it. Boiled water kills any pathogens, but then concentrates any bad chemicals or solids. Bottled water isn't regulated, so it could have anything in it, and is sometimes just plain tap water. Filtered water removes a lot of stuff, but not everything.

question about water for formula
Our ped told us to boil for the first couple of months and then we could use straight tap.
We use bottled though because our water tastes disgusting - we don't drink it.

Re: question about water for formula
my ped recommended distilled water and that is what I did with DS. (but I did not boil it ~ I read some time ago that any bottled water should be still be boiled my ped never told me to so I didn't )
--------------------------------------------------------- I heard this on TV or read it somewhere once before and I found this website too
Bottled and filtered water should have fewer impurities and contaminants, including lead, but could still have harmful bacteria

question about water for formula
I never boiled, I use tap in the Brita pitcher. I leave it out on the counter, but I only fill it as I go.
I have 9 bottles, so I make 2 days worth at a time. I leave them pre-filled so I only have to add power when I'm ready to feed DS.

Re: question about water for formula
I always use water from my brita in the fridge and then warmed up the bottle. Am I not suppose to do that? My DS always had his bottles warmed up.
