Question for c-section Moms

My first c-section I was closed with the staples. I really did not enjoy having them removed so for the second c-section I asked for them to sew me up.

For the past 2 weeks I have been dealing with another severe rash on my incision to the point of being in tears and not being able to sleep.

When I put the cortizone cream on at times I notice I am getting flaky dark skin rubbing off. Any other Moms who were sewn up notice this when putting on any creams?

Re: Question for c-section Moms

Not a mom but I did have a lap surgery a few years ago with a c-section like scar..

Dried skin is coming off probably because new, healing skin is coming in underneath.. I would try just washing it really really good and letting it air dry. Avoid creams because then it really gets no air when you put pants/undies on..

Sleep in loose fitting undies or boxers..

If all else fails, you may need a medicated cream from your MD.

With my first c/s I was stapled and didnt experince this. With my second c/s I was actually glued with no stitches or staples and I did have some dry skin/flaking but it didnt bother me at all......hopefully it is just a sign of new skin and healing

Re: Question for c-section Moms

I was closed with sutures...and I am an OR nurse... DO NOT PUT ANY LOTION ON THEM!! keep them clean and dry. The skin flaking is dead skin, but the creams can irritatte the area and start an infection...

Re: Question for c-section Moms

I had stiches that dissolved, and the only problem I had was that it was itchy at times throughout the course of healing. However I never had to put anything on it and no flaking. Maybe you should call your dr. better be safe then sorry Chat Icon

Re: Question for c-section Moms

Thanks for your help ladies. If I don't put the cortizone on, the itch becomes unbearable (and what brings on the crying fits).

It's the skin coming off that had me worried

Maybe take benadryl for the itchiness so you don't have to use the lotion?

I used baby powder as the only problem I had was moisture accumulating there...
