Question for C Section moms re staple removal

Hey ladies

I had back surgery 9 days ago

I had incision made in my stomach and my back. The one on my stomach was all the way through so they could insert a carbon filler into my back. I have staples (not sure too many)

Can I ask some questions

How many days after your c section did you get them removed?

How do they remove them? Does it hurt?

My incision is a little higher (its a J shape around the bottom of my belly button)

Right now it feels like its pulling a little, is that normal? I have no pain, its more sore. IF I laugh, cough or burp it hurts SO much, but the doctor told me that would happen since all the muscles are connected.

Thanks ladies!!

First c-section the staples were removed the day I left the hospital--4 days post surgery. The 2nd c-section they were removed like maybe a week after I came home from the hospital. The removal didn't hurt AT ALL. A couple of really tiny pinches that aren't even worth mentioning. It's done with a tweezer.

I do recall the staples being somewhat uncomfortable the second time...maybe because I had them in longer, I don't know. It was like a burning sensation.

Good luck with your recovery!

They removed my staples before I went home from the hospital and put on steri strips. Didn't hurt at all, you're basically numb there so you won't feel it. And it will be sore for awhile, totally normal.

Re: Question for C Section moms re staple removal

I had a csection 3 weeks ago, VERY low incision with 14 staples

surgery was on wednesday, they were removed on SATURDAY! didnt hurt at all! but then again, i was very numb in the area - still somewhat numb actually. i just laid down and the OB pulled them about with little tweezer things. i literally didnt feel a thing. then it put "steristrips" over the incision to help prevent it opening. the steristrips were removed at my 2 week PP visit.

bc my incision is SO low (my OB was so proud of himself, said he'd consider it a vaginal c-section bc its SO low) i didnt have much pain from the abdominal muscles healing

Re: Question for C Section moms re staple removal

I just had a normal c-section so things are probably much different.

My staples were removed the day I left the hospital (so 3 days later). Removing the staples didn't hurt at all.

My recovery was pretty easy, but I was also very careful about following my Dr's orders - stairs only once per day and no driving.

I don't remember a pulling feeling, but I could be forgetting. I am awful about remembering this kind of thing, once it's over I put it out of mind Chat Icon
