Question for heart rate monitor users
How hard is it for you to stay in your aerobic zone?
Ever since this recent adrenal issue, I realized I was working too hard - I was always working anaerobically, which was bad for my body
Now I'm working hard on not exceding my aerobic heart rate, and it's so frustrating.
I see it as a challenge that will ultimately build my aerobic base and probably shave minutes off my race time, but the training is harder than pushing myself....
Anyone else going through this?

Re: Question for heart rate monitor users
It's funny you post this now because I just bought a heart rate monitor Saturday. In monitoring my heart rate during my workout Sun. I realized that I have been working anaerobically for a while. I had actually taken my workout down a couple of notches on Sun. and the monitor said that I was working at 85% of my MHR I want to work aerobically and this is going to be tough staying in the right zone since I'm so used to working at a certain level.

It is pretty easy for me to be well above target heart rate. 85% of my max heart rate is around 162 but I run at my usual pace I can be anywhere between 170 to even above 191 (when sprinting).
Just do the best you can and try not to burn yourself out. As long as you're doing at least 65% of max heart rate (221-your age) you're in good shape!

Also I may be mistaken but I believe it is not possible to work out anaerobically for long periods of time (you should be way too out of breath to do so).
You just may be one of those people like myself who are just conditioned to work out at a higher heart rate. 85% of your MHR is great!!! As long as you feel okay and can sustain it there is no reason not to continue. Just listen to your body

That's what I thought too. I'm still trying to understand how this works. According to the monitor I was working above my upper HR limit for 21 minutes out of the 30. I have pushed myself too hard in the past where I felt nauseous but this time I felt like I had a great workout.
Oops, I'm sorry I hijacked the thread

That works for me! Doesn't sound crazy at all. Most of my workouts are completely out of my target hr zone. I should just manually change my max

Re: Question for heart rate monitor users
I have conditioned myself to work art a high heart rate as well, but honestly, it hasn't helped me to really get me to the next level I need to be. That is why I decided to take on this new challenge.
The easiest thing would be for me to say Eff it, take off the HR monitor, and be the power diva I like to be - working at 180 BPM, but I want to get more aerobic ability and although I am fit, I know I can be fitter if I develop my aerobic capacity more!
