Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
Did you have a c-section or deliver vaginally? And was the baby allowed to stay with you in recovery?
I asked my doctor about this last week and he told me it will take a few hours to admit the baby. Does that sound right?

i had a vaginal birth but then i had complications so she was taken out of teh room. I am not sure what would have been done if i had been ok. i think they do take them for bloodwork soon after they are born anyway so maybe that is correct what your dr is saying.
i had a great experience there.who is yur dr

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
I delivered vaginally. The baby was kept in the warmer for a little while after delivery (maybe an hour or so...) and then I got to have her in my room for however long I wanted her.

With this pg, it's Dr. Saad. Our son was preemie and was rushed to the NICU so I don't have my past pg to compare to.
How long until you were able to see her?

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
well like i said i had major comlication. As soon as she was born i held her then they took her to the wamer and got her all fixed up while they tried to get out the after birth and stuff. thats when the problems started they couldnt get the bleeding under control then a few hours later when i went to get up i passed out so i was A MESS. so for me i didnt see her until 10 am the next morning. i had her 11:33 at night on saturday. they kept me in the labor, delivery recovery room all night and until sunday moring at 10. I think if i was moved at a normal time i woudl have been able to see her right away.

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
With me, she stayed with me a while after the delivery. Then they took me to my room and her to the nursery. They were supposed to bring her back to me for her 5 am feeding ( which they didn't) When my DH arrived back at 7 he went and got her from the nursery and she got to stay with us.
Unfortunately she developed a complication and was sent to the NICU for the duration. But the lady next to me was allowed to have her DD with her as long as she wanted during the day.
If you have any other ?s let me know. Hope you're feeling well!!

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
I had a c-section there on May 8. They delivered our DS, cleaned him up, handed him to DH (b/c my arms were occupied w/ IV and BP cuff), then took DS and DH out (to finish clean up, weigh etc.) while they finished up with me.
They wheeled me out to recovery (which was right outside OR) and w/i 1-2 minutes DH was there with DS. They both stayed with me for a little bit (I can't recall for how long), and took DS to nursery until I got my room. Since it was almost 7pm when I got to my room, and I was not feeling well we let DS stay in the nursery.
I am not sure when they would have let him come back, provided I was feeling up to it.
The day I went home, my roommate left before me, w/i 30 min they wheeled in a new mom who just had a c-section. She had her DD in with her within 30-45 min. Not sure how long she was waiting to get the room though.

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
I had a vaginal birth. They left us three alone for about 15 minutes after they finished with my stiches, etc. Then the nurse brought DD to the nursery for thorough clean-up, admission, etc and I was moved to recovery at the same time.
They had told us it would take about 2 hours but about an hour later, DH went to go get her. From then on, she stayed in with me for as long as we wanted.

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
Had a vaginal delivery... but DD had to go to NICU so I only held her for about 3 mins... she was there for 6 hours, then we had her in our room the rest of the time we were there... almost 24 hours a day.

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
Thanks so much ladies. I guess it's going to depend on each situation. DH and I really just want some alone time with the baby before everyone starts showing up at the hospital

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
I delivered at Staten Island University hospital, which is now a division of LIJ-NSUH.
I had a vaginal birth and my experience was the same as one of the other mommies. DH held him and then they both left, they wrapped up what they were doing with me and then DH and DS came back in.
Our L&D nurse was cool too and snuck my mom, dad and sister in one by one to see us a little while later.

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
When I had Patrick after they cleaned him up & said he was healthy. John held him until I was done. Then they wheeled him into recovery where I held him.
With the girls they were waiting for me in recovery.

I know it's easier said then done. But, request it. Ask your families to hold off until Chris calls. You can be in recovery for a while so they will just be waiting around anyway. If they want to be in the hospital let them stay in the waiting room in the lobby.

Same here. They encouraged me to send her to the nursery at night and I asked them to bring her to me if she seemed hungry so I could try nursing - they didn't I delivered at Plainview.

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
I had my first (vaginally) at LIJ and unfortunately, I developed a fever during delivery so DS had to stay in the NICU for 48 hours to be "observed" so I never got to have him in my room. I had less than 10 minutes with him after I delivered before they whisked him away.
I still remember telling my DH to follow them to see where they were taking my baby.

I had a c-section and the boys went to the NICU, but while I was in recovery the c-section that my Dr had after mine while he was finishing it up, I know the mom had complications but the Father and the baby were in recovery waiting for the mom to come there.

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
I had 3 at LIJ (different times). The baby stayed with me for a little while (like 1/2 hour or so) while they checked them. I was able to hold them alittle too. Then they took the babies to get cleaned up and checked at the nursery. Once I got to my room, I called the nurse to bring them to me, and they did immediately. LIJ encourages the moms to spend as much time as they want with the babies.

Re: Question for Mommies that delivered at LIJ
..oh yeah...they were each vaginal births. THe 1st one was really bad because I tore and had to have an epesiotomy. I could hardly walk. I needed help to get in and out of bed but they still gave me my son whenever I wanted.

I'm hoping that we can have the baby with us even if just for a little while.
