Question for moms if you have/had DC enrolled in any type of "play group" (Gymboree, etc)
did you find that when DC started to go that they got sick more? DS is in 2 Gymboree classes this summer, and in this past month he has been sick twice...once with coxsackie and now some random 103 temp - I am freaking out b/c he is not typically a sick child.

DD didn't get her first cold until we started Mommy and Me, but that was part of the reason for enrolling her. She's stays at home with either DH or I and I wanted her exposed to other kids and their germs.
I am sorry that he's gotten sick again.

DS has been going to Gymboree every day since he was 6 mos old and doesn't get sick very often. That said, this summer he has had roseola and currently a cough/cold but I don't know that its from Gymboree.
ETA: even when he's gotten sick (even RSV in December) i havent thought to pull him out because he really needs to be exposed to some germs. Hope your DC feels better

A bit, but then the first playgroup he was in started in the Fall, so cold season starts up then anyway.
I still think it's good for him to be in these groups so school isn't such a shock to him. Good for me also--this is where I have met most of my Mom friends.

Last Sept through February he was sick - my doctor said expext him to get sick every 3 or so weeks if you are in any type of school/child group setting. And he was -- pink eye, cocksakie, colds

Ale's been going to Gymboree, Music Together, Spanish and other evenst since she was 3 months old.
She is now over 2 years old and has had 3 colds. Nothing else. No fevers, no infections, nothing.
Personally I think if your child is prone to getting sick it doesn't matter where you go.

ITA agree that he needs to be exposed, and he is around kids all year long, but after getting walloped with these 2 viruses in a matter of 2 weeks, I don't think it's fair to him to have him potentially getting sick again....believe me I love Gymboree and chose it bc I feel that it is a very clean place, but for some reason DS's immune system is just not strong enough to handle these kiddie germs yet....he was born VERY premature and I am almost wondering if his immune system is just not up to par yet - who knows

Re: Question for moms if you have/had DC enrolled in any type of "play group" (Gymboree, etc)
No but b/c I am pretty cautious. I try and keep him clear of things that have been sucked on, drooled on etc and try to keep him away from the kids that are obviously sick (yes - I have seen babies in our classes hacking up all kinds of things with their moms still bringing them to class).
Also, we have a consistent routine that when the class is over b/f we leave the building we wipe down my hands and his and use the sanitizing foam on both of us.
I have found this helps ALOT! Also, DS hardly ever gets sick in general (he's only been sick 3-4 times and he is 23 months old) so maybe its just his immune system and not what I'm doing

Well yes and no. Yes she caught roseola, coxsackie and the stomach flu from our mommy classes - BUT that was over a 2 month period when she was 17 and 18 months (and one cold when DD#2 arrived)- we have been doing classes since she was 4 months and so three or four illnesses in 2 years is pretty good.

Now that you mention this, DD had her first viral infection in over a year & a half; a week after she started her summer mom/tot class (something we hadn't done b4) & our moms watch her when I work. hmmmm
