I'd wait it out. Generally in the beginning of the year they get REALLY easy words as a review. For example, the first week of school my 2nd grader had these words, which she's known since she was in pre-k:

a
and
at
be
have
he
I
in
is
it
on
she
the
to
you

Yes, that is what I was thinking so I figured I'd ride it out. The annoying thing is I think they are only getting 4 a week!

Don't send them back. Since he's able to easily read the words, have him work on spelling them this week.

I would never contact teacher over this. I would remain chill and be happy he gets it.
i have always worked with my kid-now that he is in K I still do-he does his homework...then we do projects.
He is putting his weekly words into a story right now. He draws pics to go along with his sentences. We also go over his words and find them in spanish.
I am happy we are ahead of the curve-his teacher knows it-so that is good enough for us.

I agree don't say anything. I don't think you should unless he was super bored and complaining about not liking school or something (in the case that he needed to be challenged a lot more).

The teacher asseses the kids and will figure out his level if she hasn't already. Some kids are behind, some right in the middle and some are ahead.

I also agree to just do some enrichment at home (reading, writing).
