Question for moms who have kids in Daycare..

What are two to three things that you wish your daycare had to make it better?

Re: Question for moms who have kids in Daycare..

I have more than 3

1) Cribs instead of pack n plays in a dark separate area off of the main room. So when some babies are playing they don't disturb the sleeping babies.

2) Older more experienced staff. I don't mind younger girls as volunteers or helpers, but they should not be left alone with the babies.

3) functioning swings/bouncers in the infant room (they don't replace batteries) and better toys & more books in the toddler room. All the toys are broken and missing pieces.

4) I hate those tables shaped like a horseshoe with plastic yellow seats in it. The babies are too close together and eat others food. With an allergic baby its a concern.

5) A healthier menu.

6) A better outside area for the little ones.

7) On line access

I think that's it

That's a given, but I know that's the responsibility of the parents to keep their sick kids homeChat Icon

Re: Question for moms who have kids in Daycare..

There's a daycare run by a hospital here that has a video link so you can check your baby online during the day. I would LOVE that, but would not get any work done LOL.

I wished tehre was a quiet place for him to sleep in the infant room, but we're past that now.

I wish they were more concerned w/spreading germs. i know there's only so much you can do, but that would be on my wish list for sure.

1. No fee for early drop off / late pick up. I want to bring DD in earlier so I can go to work earlier and come home earlier, especially now that's dark when I pick her up at 5:15.

2. Outside area. They do go to the nearby park sometimes but I don't like that nearly as much as I'd like a enclosed outdoor play area.

Other than those two things, I'm pretty happy with ours. I do wish the teachers in DD's room would ask other parents not to bring in so much stuff for their DC and "clean house". Their cubicles are overflowing into my DD's cubicle and I'm constantly getting other people's stuff sent home in DD's bag.

I love my daycare, but... I hate bringing in clean bottles everyday! I wish they would wash them for me & I'll bring them home over the weekend!

I'm actually pretty happy with my day care, but I do wish they had the option for early drop off/late pick up. They are strictly 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.

This is one of the deciding factors why we got a nanny instead, , after we factored in the early & late pick up fees, it didn't make sense to take him to daycare.

Those fees are a killer!

Re: Question for moms who have kids in Daycare..

My main issue with my daycare is not really their fault. They have a toddler room for kids ages 12-24 months and then they have a 2 year old class. From September until a few weeks ago, Sydney was one of the oldest in the toddler room which I didnt feel suited her needs and she was too young for the 2s room. Now they pushed her up so we will see how that goes.

Re: Question for moms who have kids in Daycare..

In general I am pretty satisfied with my DD's day care. I only have a few things I wish they would do, but they're not that technologically advanced.

1. Direct deposit so I don't have to bring in a check every week

2. A video camera on the main entrance and buzzer to let the parents in directly from the classroom (right now you ring the bell and a teacher has to leave the classroom to let you in)

I can honestly say that I am 100% happy with my day care! Everything that I could have ever wanted in a day care place, they have!

Enclosed play area outside- when we started there she said she was getting a couple of double strollers to take them out but that never happenedChat Icon Luckily I get home by 4 so I make it rule to go to the park just to get fresh air.

Re: Question for moms who have kids in Daycare..

I like our day care, but I would love it if it had:

1 - better security - I walk in all the time behind other parents without coding in
2 - video access
3 - more adult supervision - they told us there would never be floaters alone with the children - almost every night I pick up there is no teacher there. Chat Icon

Re: Question for moms who have kids in Daycare..

I'm pretty happy with where we go,
but online access would be great. Laundry service for the crib sheets since they are already washing the bibs for us would be nice also.

Can I ask a question...how much time do your babies spend in their cribs while they are daycare???

Also, just out of curiosity, what kind of hours are your places open that they charge you for early/late dropoff.

This is so different from my daycare!!!

Crib time depends on the kid. At my center the Infant 1 and Infant 2 (0 - 18 months old) rooms get 2 naps. One at 10 and one at 2. I think once you go into the Toddler room at 18 months you only get 1 nap on a cot.

At home my DD naps 2 -- 4 hours a day. There MAYBE an 1 hour total. She's in a pack n play, in the main room. Not quiet, not dark.

My center is open 7am - 6pm. Core hours are 8 - 5. Since I get there at 5:15 - I need to pay for the extra hour.

I had a picture in my head of these babies being in rooms in rows of cribs!!! I think I had it wrong!

My nursery is open from 8 am t0 6 pm but our work hours suit those kinds of things....they don't stay open extra hours unless you have an emergency.

Thanks for the info!

Well some centers have cribs (which I would prefer) they are usually lined up on a back wall. It makes me kinda sad to see them all in their "cells"

How is it in the UK?

Well our daycare centre is in a big old house, they have an infant room with some sofas and exersaucers in it, they have a nap room, but it only has 2 cribs in there, some babies sleep in prams. Our nursery only has 40 children, so they don't take too many infants. The infant room has like a living room and a kitchen area. Noah is in the Tweenies room and its like a big playroom with a kitchen section, he sleeps on a mat (which is hard to believe) I don't have to bring anything for him as they supply everything except for diapers and wipes. I think the ratio for nursery nurses and infants is 2 kids to 1 nurse. The older kids have 3 kids to 1 assistant. He has a very structured day and they play outside in the back yard every afternoon, rain or shine. This year the nursery has had a canopy built over the play area so they can stay dry.

I love my nursery, I love the woman who owns it, and I love the girls, they are soooo lovely and they all adore Noah. He really loves going. Which makes it a heck of a lot easier for me!!
