Re: Question for moms who work outside the home...

one word:
teacher

I have to be in very early in the morning, but I walk out the door at 3:05 pm & pick up DD by 3:35. I do all of my work after DD goes to bed. I teach high school history & have a ton of take home work- I work every night & every weekend, BUT never when DD is awake. I've been teaching 9 years- I never could've pulled this off in the first 5. It's exhausting, but great. I also get many many days/weeks off during the school year. Pay is not high, but benefits are super.

Re: Question for moms who work outside the home...

I usually work from 9:30am - 6pm at the office, but I do work after they go to bed. I'm a project manager for a interactive design agency. During the week time is limited, we do a lot of family time on the weekends.

6:30 am- wake up shower
7:00 am - feed the baby, change diapers, get both of them dressed
8:45 am - leave the house drop off Jayden at ILs
9:15 am - DH drops me off at the train downtown
9:30 am - Get to work
6:00 pm - DH picks me up after getting Nate
6:30 pm - Pick up Jayden from ILs
6:45 pm - Get home
7:00 pm - Fix Nate's dinner, let him feed himself while I feed the baby
7:30 pm - DH will play with Nate and baby while I start dinner
8:00 pm - Give Nate a shower, put both their pjs on (ILs usually give Jayden his bath for us)
8:10 pm - Read both of them a story
8:30 pm - Boys are asleep, so we'll clean up, DH will wash bottles and pack diaper bag for next day
9:00 pm - we eat dinner and then do some more work

Re: Question for moms who work outside the home...

I work the traditional 9-5 job, but lately i have been getting home at 6 or 6:30 and i spend a total of 1 hour a day with my boys and it absolutely SUCKS...but you do what you have to do. Here is my daily schedule.

6:15 - wake up and shower, dress for work
6:45-7 - babies wake up and feed them their bottles
7:30 - get ready for the day for babysitter....bottles, food, eat breakfast, etc.
8 - babysitter arrives i leave for work
8:00-4:30 or later - work
5ish - get home feed the boys dinner.
5:30ish - give them a bath, play, try and get dinner ready for me and my husband
6 - give boys final bottle, DH gets home, we eat and play with kids for about an hour
7ish - boys go to sleep.

Thats BEST CASE SCENERIO. Lately i have been getting home around 6ish so my babysitter been feeding them. It really stinks......but I usually have Fridays off so it's worth it. I do it for the benefits for the family (which i carry) and I make a pretty nice salary.....so at the end of the day on my way home from work while it sucks.....I know what I am doing for my family is the most important thing. And I do love my job and boss...so that makes it a lot easier.
