question for obama supporters
First, let me throw out there that I am not an Obama supporter. I am however asking this question out of genuine interest in hearing/understanding your position on this if you are.
There are enough posts about Obama v. McCain... and enough posts about not wanting more of GWB... so, please only respond to this if you are an Obama supporter and if you have an answer specific to this ? (not just, "i don't want McCain or an R in office". Thanks!!!!!!
Here goes:
I am struggling to understand how Obama can address the economic situation and do all of the other things he has promised to do swiftly upon taking office. All of the things he has proposed would cost a lot of $$$ and I don't understand how he can deliver on those things and solve our economic crisis. Please explain what you think on this...

Re: question for obama supporters
If the government can pull billions of dollars out of their a$$ for the bailout plan--I think with the right person (aka Obama) in office they can come up with a plan to turn the economy around.

Re: question for obama supporters
It will take time. Like he said, when Kennedy took office, he said 'we will walk on the moon in ten years time' (paraphrasing)
I wouldn't trust him if he promised to fix everything RIGHT NOW. can't be done.

Re: question for obama supporters
It will take time,. but money is going to be spent to fix what is already broken. There has to be steps and actions to turn things around,., not just a bandaid

Re: question for obama supporters
thanks to both of you for replying. i appreciate the honesty.
if you don't mind, a follow up:
do you guys think that he will be able to do all the things he's promising on other issues (andi n the time frame promised) and fix the economy?
or, is it along the lines of ...you think he may not be able to do all the things he's promising to do quickly once entering office bc of the economy, but that is ok bc the economy takes precedence ?
If it's the latter, I completely understand that position. It's the former I don't quite understand... not really bc of any sort of bias... just because of practicality (which i apply to the candidates positions that i support as well).

Re: question for obama supporters
I believe it will take someone with an even temprement and the ability to look at the whole economic picture to get us out of this mess. I believe its reckless for McCain to say things like he is going to freeze all non defense spending. Obama said something last night similar to going through programs with a scalpel rather than plowing through them with a giant axe. I believe it is an ability to examine tough decisions rationally that will make Obama the best candidate to deal with this mess.

Re: question for obama supporters
more ppl replied while i was replying. thanks to everyone who did.
i guess it is true that he has said things will take time. there are just a lot of times i have heard him say he will do things within the first 100 days of taking office as well.
btw, in case anyone is interested what prompted my question was a convo i had with an acquaintance who is a supporter who really seemed to think the man could do it all.

Re: question for obama supporters
I think he's going to try to do basically what he said....go through the budget, see where he can cut and where he needs to fund.
I don't think he's glossed over the issue or said it would be an easy fix.
I think it's important to realize that it wasn't JUST the govt that got us into this mess...the collective WE, the people, bear the burden as welll, and as such, the collective WE, the people will and should bear the burden of it on both plans.
I feel that Obama is being slightly more realistic. McCain will not be able to keep him promise of tax cuts for ANYONE if he has any hope of the fed govt not going bankrupt, especially with his win at all costs plan for Iraq.

Re: question for obama supporters
i think the mess we are in will take time to fix, no matter who ends up in office.
and i think that other things may have to put on the back burner, hopefully temporarily.
i trust obama more, and agree with his policies and views on the issues that are most important to me. i do not trust mccain, and i trust palin even less.
but i also think the reality is that NO politician really does everything they say they're going to do while campaigning ... republican or democrat ... its just the "nature of the beast"

Re: question for obama supporters
I don't think he will be able to do everything he is talking about, but neither will McCain, and I appreciated the fact that Obama prioritized some of his goals last night. He has said given the state of the economy, he won't be able to do everything on his wish list immediately, but he hopes to get it all done in time.
Any politician promises the moon. If they deliver on half the things they promise, that's pretty good. I do beileve he's earnest and does intend to do as much as possible.

Re: question for obama supporters
With regard to your follow up questions: I think delegating responsibilty is going to be very, very important if he is going to accomplish things that are not directly the economy. No one can do everything.
He is going to need to choose the best people possible to run the Dept of Education, the Treasury, the Dept. of State, etc. Then I think he has a fighting chance of getting more done. And if he chooses people who turn out to be ineffective, he'll need to remedy that ASAP. I do have faith in him to do this.
Many things hinge on the economy- for example, education. So I do think the economy takes precedence.

Re: question for obama supporters
Actually to add to the previous posters points, another thing that gives me confidence about Obama is the people he has around him. He has an excellent campaign team, and just looking at his campaign, he has done what no one thought he could. He also chose a good VP, one he can work with, I suspect this is why he did not choose Hilary.
I do think he's smart and I don't see signs of micro-managing in him, so I think he will surround himself with good people and will let them do their jobs.
