Question for the lawyers regarding parents in nursing homes
We put my grandmother in a nursing home about 2 months ago. Recently my Dad is getting hit with all of these bills for her from doctors, a nursing home she was in while ago for rehab, etc. Is he responsible for her bills? Some of them go back a few years. TIA!

Re: Question for the lawyers regarding parents in nursing homes
your grandmother is responsible but if your dad was POA, he is in charge of her money and making financial decisions on her behalf.
Do you know if she is on medicaid or was at the time?
btw-not a lawyer, but have some knowledge about this unfortunately.

Re: Question for the lawyers regarding parents in nursing homes
I'm not a lawyer, but do have some personal experience with nursing homes, etc.
Is your grandmother on medicaid? does she have insurance?

Re: Question for the lawyers regarding parents in nursing homes
She has Medicaid now, but only had Medicare at the time these bills were incurred. My father does have POA, and did at the time as well. Thanks for any help/insight you can provide!

And Medicare won't pay for a %? did she have any additional insurance or no?
how far back are these bills going?

My Dad called one today and they said Medicare covers 80% and she was responsible for 20%. She had no other insurance. The bill is from 2005 but my Dad's never seen one before (and he collects her mail so there's no chance of her having received it and him not knowing). It seems like she stopped seeing this doc now that she's in a home and he's suddenly sending all of these bills. But that's a whole other point. My Dad just doesn't understand how he could be responsible for her bills.
