Re: Tell me nursing homes aren't that bad
They aren't all bad. It depends which one / type she goes to. My Grandma was in an Independent Living home in Huntington that was BEAUTIFUL and the food was great! They would give us our own dining room and serve us the food when we visited her!
Her nursing home in Woodbury was pretty nice also, but she was a little sicker when she was there so it wasn't as pleasant overall.
to you!

Re: Tell me nursing homes aren't that bad
I don't think they're that bad. My Great-Grandmother lived in one in Massapequa for about 5 or 6 years and she seemed happy and well taken cared for.
My step-father's mother lived in a REALLY nice one in Huntington. It was beautiful, and everyone seemed really nice. My mom told me she wanted to move in now
I think if you do your research you can find a really good place and that your grandmother will be well taken care of.

Re: Tell me nursing homes aren't that bad
Thanks It's so sad that she might not be living in her apartment that has been like a second home for me and my brothers and our SOs...This whole thing is so hard and I cannot believe it's happening But my mom says that she would feel better knowing that she is safe and cared for

My aunt lived at the one in Huntington. It was so nice and modern and the care was great. You couldn't even tell it was a nursing home.

Re: Tell me nursing homes aren't that bad
my grandma went to one after she had her stroke and she had a great time. She actually liked always having people around and having a roommate and she even went out on the nursing home daily adventures (by adventures they mean going to the mall and things like that). Do the research on them because not all of them are great but if you find a good one, your grandma will be just fine.

Some are really nice...My grandfather is in one that is off the beach and it looks like a hotel inside.
DH's mother was in one that was state run...and that was horrible
