Question for those of the Jewish Faith
I have a question - I have a bride getting married Sep/October 2009, and we both know that, the following holidays in '09 are:
Rosh HaShanah: 19 September 2009 (Saturday)
Yom Kippur: 28 September 2009 (Monday)
Would 9/23 be acceptable to be married, or do we stay away from dates between the two Holidays?

Re: Question for those of the Jewish Faith
my family is reformed/conservative, and would not have a problem going to a wedding then, but i believe that my parent's orthodox friends would choose not to go during those 10 days.

Same here. And there are certain weeks in Oct that are not allowed for weddings (maybe not so much for the reformed)

Re: Question for those of the Jewish Faith
That's a big no-no...I had to change my wedding date 3 times to get a date that my whole family would attend.

Re: Question for those of the Jewish Faith
i am going to answer this question as the token jewish clergy person on LIF.
I would not perform a wedding during the yamim noraim (the days of awe--the days between RH and YK). It is a time of reflection, and especially for us pulpit clergy people, we need as much rest as we can between the holidays.
I would also not do a wedding on any of the 3 festivals- sukkot/simchat torah, passover, and shavout.
there are also other days that weddings and other lifecycle events are not allowed to be performed.
the sanctity of the holidays should be observed/celebrated--and the focus should be on the holidays, not on a life cycle event.
also, FYI we are Reform Jews (the term is not reformed) churches are referred to as reformed, not jews!

Re: Question for those of the Jewish Faith
I am posting the days when Jewish weddings and all other celebrations are prohibited: if you consult a Hebrew calendar, you will be able to find when these dates fall.
on Shabbat (Friday anytime and Saturday before sunset) Rosh Hashanah Yom Kippur Sukkot Passover Shavout During the counting of the Omer (the 7 weeks from Passover to Shavout, excluding Lag B'Omer--although after that Lag b'omer (the 33rd day of the omer) it is ok to get married for liberal Jews)
The 3 weeks from the 17th of Tammuz tro the 9th of Av (because we are in mourning for the destruction of the ancient Temple in Jerusalem)
the following fast days: Tisha b'Av 10th of Tevat 17th of Tammuz Fast of Gedalia (3rd of Tishrei) Fast of Esther ( 3rd of Adar)
