Question for those who had an episiotomy
How long does it take for stitches to dissolve and feel normal again? I forgot to ask, or they told me and I just can't remember!! Also how long did you use the peri bottle (must admit I love that thing!)
Thanks!

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
this was my regilous routine for 10 days after I got home (I was in for 3 days) and I did this every time I went to the bathroom and came out of the shower. After peeing I would use the peri bottle with warm water and used the whole thing then on my extra long pad I would 2 tucks pad and then dibocane (I can't remember the spelling but you can get it at walgreens) and let me tell you it really help me heal and I never felt itchy from the stiches. As far as feeling normal it took probably 8 weeks or so. By 3 weeks I was fine but if I moved my legs a certain way or sat a certain way or got up from bed a certain way I would feel pressure and it was deffinitly gone by 8 weeks

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
2 weeks.. I will tell you it was a very long two weeks and I was in alot of pain but once that two week mark hit, i was feeling alot better.
Do the sitz bath, it really helped and by a donut to sit on or a pillow, that helped too..
Forgot about the peri bottle-- it was amt best friend for at least a month...

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
As far as the pain goes, close to 2 weeks. It was quite a while though before I felt totally normal again - a few months.
I used the peri bottle religiously, and the sitz bath a lot too. I also tried soaking in the bathtub.

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
another vote for 2 weeks.....the soreness got a little better after one week but I'm only starting to feel "normal" again now at 2.5 weeks - my doctor said yesterday that the episiotomy was almost completely healed

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
Sorry, but it took me forever. I popped my stitches and had to be restitched at my OB's office 5 days after delivery - Ouch. Unfortunately, at 6 months post partum I still don't feel normal. Sounds like I'm in the minority though so good luck to you. Hoping I don't have one next time.

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
Yes, use the peri bottle all the time. I love mine and still use it when AF comes to visit.

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
I used that squirt bottle for a good 2 weeks every day and then I think I used it off and on just in case.
I don't remember how long it took for the stitches to dissolve.
I had a small tear....Dr said it would have been the same had she cut me

I had one with my oldest child and I remember it being about 2 weeks too. God, I loved that peri bottle.

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
I used the peri bottle, the tucks and the ointment for at least 6 weeks probably more like 8. I did start to feel better but like one of the APs if I did too many stairs or went for a walk or something to exert myself I'd feel sore again. Never had any itching and wasn't actually aware of when they dissolved. My Dr. said the sitz bath would cut the healing time in half so I used that too. And I'd second the stool softener suggestion b/c I had hemmorhoids and it was very uncomfortable for a long time PP.

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
I had a religious routine of peri-bottle, pad with witch hazel and dibucaine ointment for about 2 weeks. It was at the 2 week mark that I started to feel normal again and loosened up on the routine.

Re: Question for those who had an episiotomy
at 2 1/2 weeks PP now, I can say I feel great and stopped using the peri bottle about a week ago. I am just a bit itchy from the healing ( i had a tear... the Dr. didn't cut me) but the stitches are soooo itchy!!! I used the tucks pads for awhile and the antibiotic cream they give you and I am fine. I am assuming by my 6 week appt I will be pretty much healed!
Hope you are doing well....
