Question for those who use a microwave sterilizer

I forgot to put water in the Avent microwave sterilizer before sterilizingChat Icon Everything looks fine and there was no weird smell - can I still use the bottles (of course after sterilizing).

There are warnings in the manual to NOT forget the warning, but it doesn't say anything else.

It did blow out my microwave thoughChat Icon

I'm such an idiot!!!!

Re: Question for those who use a microwave sterilizer

I think it is safer to use hot soapy water in your sink, or use the dishwasher, there have been some scary studies about using plastic in the micro lately Chat Icon I never used a sterilizer, if your sink water gets hot enough that is fine.Chat Icon

I have well water so its suggested that I sterilze every bottle Chat Icon Maybe I'll buy a steam sterilizer.

Re: Question for those who use a microwave sterilizer

I have well water and I have been washing bottles out with really hot water or putting them in the dishwasher. Every so often I will put them in a pot of boiling water. I have the microwave sterilizer but I honestly don't use it that often. The dishwasher gets hot enought to kill anything.

We have well water also. Have it tested. We did and it is typical better (more purified) than regular tap water.

I use the microwave sterilizer every time I wash bottles! Chat Icon I feel like if I can't get them clean enough they'll still get really clean in the microwave. Put them through again if you're scared that they didn't get sterilized the first time.

I have been sterilizing in the microwave after every use/wash. However, I was "cooling" them on a paper towel after taking it out of the sterilizer....ummm isn't that defeating the purpose?

Sometimes I have such "baby" brain!!!

What do you mean defeating the purpose? They have to dry somewhere right? I put mine on the bottle drying rack to dry - that's ok right? Chat Icon If they're still wet when I need to fill a bottle I just use a paper towel to dry the inside.

I was reading something that says to fill the sterilized bottles with formula after taking the top off the sterilizer. They lose sterility quickly. They will stay sterile in the Avent container for 3 hours if you don't take the cover off. Let me see if I can find what I was reading.

Re: Question for those who use a microwave sterilizer

Is a microwave sterilizer even necessary? I have not purchased one yet. I would think the hot water & hot steam from the dishwasher would get them sterilized enough. Besides, as soon as you take the bottles out of the sterilizer they will lose the sterility, so what is the point?
