I just put down the disposable placemats.
Three reasons:
1. I don't want his food directly on the dirty table.
2. The placemats entertain him.
3. He makes a huge mess and it makes it MUCH easier to clean up.
Same here when she was smaller. But I don't do anything now, she just eats off a plate.

Re: question from non- parent...
I wipe down the chair and her spot on the table. I just bought those disposable placemats too but haven't tried them yet.
I don't see why they should be offended by it. I'm just taking one extra step to prevent my child from picking up an illness. I didn't ask the wait staff to do it for me.

I put the Tiny Diner placemat down. I put her shopping cart cover over the high chair, she usually wants to eat the straps of the high chair and sometimes those things look nasty.

Re: question from non- parent...
I dont use the disposable mat bc my kids only yanked them up and it was more of a distraction to them than anything. But I always wipe everything down. Many many people do this, not sure why a waiter would be insulted. Seems a bit petty to be insulted over a parent making sure their child's eating conditions are to their liking.

I used to use those disposable table topper things, until DS started to find it amusing to pull them off Now, if the table "looks" clean, it probably is!
Same for me.
