Question on testing your home
When you purchased a home did you have it tested for mold, lead, asbestos and radon ? Is this typically done ? Tia !

Question on testing your home
No, assume any home not built in the last 20 years has lead in it.

Then there is definitely lead paint - it was used until the 80's. Just be careful when removing wallpaper (if you do) in case there are paint chips, wear a mask anytime you are doing anything to the walls. Also, just an FYI, a lot of old tile floors are asbestos tiles, doesn't matter if they are down or even if they chip a little (just don't eat it!), but when removing, definitely use super masks and vacuum with one of those special high tech filters.

No, you just basically assume it's there.. I elaborated more in another post. There's really nothing to do.

Okay, I just read it. Thanks ! We will be taking down wall paper so I will talk to DH about wearing masks.

DH works in construction (he's a civil engineer), so he's UBER cautious with us when doing work in the house. We wear masks for basically everything except painting. He has a ventilator one that costs like $1K from work that he wears, I just use the ones from Home Depot/Lowes that have the airflow vent thingy (otherwise I get too hot). Our house was built in 1951 and I'm 100% certain there was lead paint around the house and I know that when we ripped up the kitchen there was asbestos tile - the girls weren't allowed in the kitchen and the boys all wore masks and were vacuuming as they went to pick it all up.

Question on testing your home
You can either test it (they sell little kits in home depot) or just assume it's lead like Jess said above. Any particulate respirator (usually marked "N95") will filter out the dust, including lead. As long as the paint is in good shape, it does not pose a hazard. The hazard comes into play during renovation / paint disturbing activities.
As far as asbestos, it could be in things like pipe coverings / insulation behind the walls and it could also be in any 9x9 vinyl adhesive tiles. Same as lead where if you are not disturbing, it poses no hazard. If you are going to renovate, either have it tested or take necessary precautions.
If you see visible mold, then you have a mold problem. If not, and moisture is not an issue, there is no reason to test. Testing for the number of mold spores in an area means nothing as there are no real "standards" to compare it with to determine safe levels. There are always some mold spores everywhere, both indoor and out. Anyone who tells you to test is trying to just sell you a service. (PS. I'm a safety director in construction and would be happy to help with any questions you may have)

Question on testing your home
I had my house tested for radon. It is common for there to be elevated levels in my area. My home has an evacuation system installed.
