Question re: affixing outdoor Christmas lights to the house AND when to buy a real tree.
Both of these are new to me.
What do we use to affix the outdoor Christmas lights to the house? DH wants to use a staple gun but something about that just seems wrong to me. Wouldn't the staples potentially cut through the wires if you're not super careful about it?
And, about how many weeks before Christmas can you safely buy a real tree? Not that I'm looking to buy one now , but weekend are booking up for December so I need to know about when I should be looking to pick one up.
TIA!

Re: Question re: affixing outdoor Christmas lights to the house AND when to buy a real tree.
my dad always used a staple gun as well... where ever it was needed... he eventually installed hooks (the kind that screw in) so that he could wrap the wires around it... and he would use masking tape, electrical, duct tape (basically a strong tape that would stay with snow/rain) instead...
this is our first christmas in this house so idk what were going to do yet..
as far as christmas trees... my parents always got theirs the first week in december...
thats when we will get ours too... its the first time we're able to have a tree...

DH bought these clips that attach to the gutters and clip the lights to them. You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes or anywhere else they sell outdoor decorations. These are not screw in clips so it's easy to put up the lights.

They make special clips especially designed for this. Many of them screw into the house, then the wires clip in. Others clip onto the gutters, and the wires clip into those.

I agree--look for the plastic clips.
I am planning to get my tree Friday, December 10 & I will leave it up untill January 6-8th, if it lasts.
You could get it the week before if you are takignit down earlier.

They sell special clips as others have said.
As for the tree when I was a kid we would go cut down the tree the day after Thanksgiving. My dad used to let it sit in the back yard for a week in a bucket of water & then bring it into the house the first weekend in December. With regular watering it always stayed up & looking great until the first Saturday after January 6.

Re: Question re: affixing outdoor Christmas lights to the house AND when to buy a real tree.
I dont have experience for hooks for the house but the ones i use on the window are those 3M ones (that can be removed without ruining the paint)
As for my tree it's going to be delivered on the 9th or 10th and we will keep it up for about a month.

my parents use those on their house also. we decorate the bushes only at our house. the gutters are too high.
eta: other question. we buy a real tree the 2nd or 3rd weekend in december. we keep the house hot, so the tree has a tendency to die earlier. also we keep it up till little christmas, january 6 so it is about 3 to 4 weeks.

Little clips: Lowes and Home Depot
Tree: We are planning to buy our tree and decorate our house the first weekend in December. I keep the tree up until the first weekend after New Years. Just make sure to water the tree everyday.

We attach it to the house with those clips that attach to the gutters - DH also has been known to use zip-ties to attach the lights to the gutters coming down the sides of the house.
