if you get a real Christmas tree...
When do you plan to buy it this year?
Every year I second guess myself and forget when I bought last year's tree.
So, have you gotten your real tree yet? This weekend? Waiting until next week?
I like my tree to last until after New Year's...

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
It all depends...We usually get it next weekend (2 weeks before Christmas) bc we do leave it up until Little Christmas. We are debating though getting it tomorrow just bc we have a lot going on the next week.
We do cut our tree down fresh from a farm

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
We got ours Thanksgiving weekend.
We typically do it that weekend or the 1st weekend in December and our trees last until mid-January, but we cut down our trees and they tend to last longer than pre-cut trees which are very often cut down months in advance.

We will be getting ours next weekend. Last year we bought the tree the first weekend in December and while it did last until the New Year, it was a bit dry.

This will be my first real tree. We are getting it Monday or Tuesday and I hope to keep it up until Little Christmas but I have no idea if that will happen! LOL

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
DH and I are planning to get the tree anytime from Thurs-Sun of next week depending on his work schedule.
This way he can set it up for me, I can give it a day to adjust then decorate

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
Think about it....the tree that you may buy from a real-tree stand MIGHT not have a "fresh" tree. That tree may've been there for two weeks by the time you get to it....so in your house for two extra weeks, or out there, it's the same!

That's my thinking so we are getting ours either tonight or tomorrow. We do it this weekend every year and our trees always last into January.

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
normally we get it at the local fire station, but to cut costs, we'll be buying it at home depot (its about $30 cheaper).
We're getting it this Sunday. We got it the same weekend last year and it lasted about 2 weeks after Christmas, which is perfect for us since we're taking it down 1 week after Christmas this year because I want it out before the baby comes 1/17

It's not the same though. If you buy yours early & leave it outside, I think it is the same as leaving it at the Christmas tree lot & buying it 2 weeks before Christmas, but my trees tend to dry out really quickly once I bring them inside. I live in a co-op though, so I can't entirely controll the heat & it gets very hot/dry even though I can close the radiator in the LR.
If your house is cool, it might not matter too much.
Anyway, to answer the original quesition, I am planning on getting it next weekend or during the week of the 15th (b/c I will be on vacation & want to get it from a place that is crowded on the weekends ) but that feels really late.

We are planning to get it this Sunday. I hope it last through new years because we are having a party at our house and I would like to keep it up for that.

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
We are busy this weekend. So we will probably get it next weekend. We have no idea where to get because we moved. We might get it where we usually get it and then drive it 30 minutes to our new home. This is also our first tree together so we need a skirt, lights and ornaments.

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
I saw people on thanksgiving day with them on the roof of their cars. I think that was a bit early, but we usually get one around this weekend and it makes it. we always cut the bottom again before putting it in the stand so the bottom isn't all dried up and full of sap.

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
We are going this weekend. We were planning on it last weekend, but the weather squashed that idea.
I use Preserve in my tree, and I have always been able to keep it until at least "Little Christmas."

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
We actually leave our tree outside (space and cat issues) so we get it early since it's out in the colder weather. If I had it inside I would wait till next weekend. yes, it's true the trees are cut already, but being outside in the cold preserves it longer. Once you bring it into your warm home it dries out much faster.

Yup, this is what I'm worried about... I think we'll get it next weekend. (We can't really do it this weekend anyway because I have to work Sunday...)

Wonder how my kittens will like the three. They'll think we got them a cool new toy!
they don't climb the thing...
None of my other cats ever have. They just liked to sleep on the tree skirt. These kitties, however, are... um, special.

Re: if you get a real Christmas tree...
Traditionally my family purchased a tree the first weekend in December. However, DD's b-day is early December, so starting this year (her first b-day) I will not be putting up a tree until after her birthday.
