Question regarding bedtime routine (reading story)

For those that read DC a story before bed...Where is DC when you read it? In the crib? On your lap? etc...

I sit in the rocker with DS on my lap so that he can see the book and the pictures. I then put him into the crib awake. He usually falls asleep on his own no problem, but every once in a while he will fuss. DH put him in the crib to read to him tonight which seemed to relax him, we are wondering if he will fall asleep on his own more consistently if we do it this way. What does everyone else do?

mia would never go for that, she's not the "i'm gonna chill here while you stand so close to me but not hold me" type of baby. but i could see that being great because reading gets her all excited since she tries to grab at the book, the page, everything.

DD sits in my lap when I read to her at night. We read in my bed.

When the girls were babies, we read in the rocking chair, but very mellow, low light and soft reading voice. When they moved into a bed we started reading in the bed.

Re: Question regarding bedtime routine (reading story)

DS has a double bed in his room, we sit on that, he sits on our laps or next to us. Wouldn't ever be able to read to him in his crib - he won't even take his bottle in his crib! But if it works for you, stick with it.

Re: Question regarding bedtime routine (reading story)

DD sits with me in her glider. Once we are done with the book I put her in her crib with no problem.

I read to DD in her swing but I have found I can't read to her before bed - it makes her giddy not sleepy so I read to her at other points during the day while I am pumping.

Baths also stimulate her, I can't do any of that stuff for her bedtime routine which kind of stinks

Re: Question regarding bedtime routine (reading story)

we read goodnight moon every night, I planned to change it up, but I have it memorized and its like a rock in our routine

DS lays in his bouncer (it goes up to 35lbs) and holds his bottle. I hold the book so he can see the pictures, and read to him (mostly from memory at this point)

Re: Question regarding bedtime routine (reading story)

DS sits on my lap and we read usually 3 stories, then I put him in his crib and turn on his music. e rolls over and goes right to sleep.

On nights when he is getting fussy, if we are having trouble getting through the story I skip pages and hurry up to the end. For some reason with DS he has to get to the end of the book, even if we skip pages. If I close it in the middle he'll flip out Chat Icon

Re: Question regarding bedtime routine (reading story)

If it relaxes him and it works, then I say go for it. I'm just jealous that you can get him to sleep on his own!!!

What I do with Trip is put him on my lap in the glider and read him the story so he can see the pages. At bedtime I have the lights dimmed and I alternate between 5 or 6 bedtime books, reading in a soft voice. I reserve the more stimulating books like Dr. Suess for daytime reading, but I always read to him in the glider.
