Question regarding Hasidic Jewish men...please don't move to Fashion and Beauty!
It's a serious question...how do they get their curls? The curls are always so perfect.
I'm not asking to be rude. I've always wondered this.

They are not clip-ons I assure you. Most of these men have had their sideburns (peyes) like that since the age of three when they get their first haircuts. As children their sideburns are kept slightly longer than their ears but they continue to cut the rest of their hair. As they get older, they grow beards, but the sideburns grow separately. Over time, I am sure they "train" their hair by either using product (though I dont know what kind) or simply twirling. I work in Crown Heights and observe this on a daily basis.

Honestly, I saw a family in Target the other day (I live by Rockland county where there are a lot of hasidics) and the boys had curlers in their sideburns.

I have seen some "uncurly" peyes - so some I guess are not blessed with those curls!

the hair curls either naturally, or the men can curl them on purpose. the curl itself has no meaning, but the hair being long does have meaning as Leslie explained in her post
