Re: questions about CIO
My ped said we could do it at 5 months to wean DS from taking bottles at night. We did, then he got sick and the whole thing went to crap til he was a year old
As for going in, we can't go in with our DS, makes it worse, but for some kids that works

Re: questions about CIO
We started CIO pretty early and did it in stages. The first few nights I could only let her cry for maybe 1 minute before I had to go rushing in. For us, she started sleeping 8 or 9 hour stretches at 3 months and consistently 12 hour stretches at 5 months. I think it had a lot to do with what she was eating - starting purees at 3 months, etc.
Around 4 months I'd say I was letting her cry for maybe 10-15 minutes before I'd check on her.

Re: questions about CIO
Personally, I could never CIO a baby at 4 months. I think it's way too young. I couldn't stand to hear my ds cry knowing that all he needs is a little TLC from me or daddy to make him feel better. My understanding is that sleeping through the night is a developmental milestone and has little to do at this age with learning how to soothe themselves.
