Questions about getting induced...
I figured Id get more response from this board.....
I am set to be induced Friday around 3pm and had a few questions:
Will I be in labor and delivery during the cervadil? Or will they move me once labor actually begins?
Can you feel the cervadil inside you?
Should DH go home that night and come back saturday morning, or is it a better idea for him to stick around...not sure if ill be sleeping or wide awake?
Thanks again girls...

Re: Questions about getting induced...
Not sure what hospital you are delivering at - but at Winthrop I was in a triage room in Labor and Delivery.
They put the Cervadil in for 12 hours. When they put it in - it hurt like he!! but once it was in - it was fine. I was feeling contractions pretty much the entire time (or what I think were contractions) and I REALLY thought I would be dialated once the 12 hours were up. I wasn't dialated at all after. I told them I wanted a section instead of doing another 12 hours.
I don't know what happens when you dialate - and I don't know when they give pitocin. Sorry.
I was able to eat throughout the day - so def. bring snacks with you.
DH should def. stick around. You're not really going to be sleeping -so why should he!
ETA: Dh ate ice cream sundae's the whole time - so he was def. not tortured -- and I needed him to help me go to the bathroom every 10 mins.

Re: Questions about getting induced...
I was in L/D the whole time from the cervadil to the c-section (they just couldn't get me to go into labor)
I couldn't necessarily feel the cervadil inside me...kinda felt like a tampon???? But it did make me start bleeding
DH slept in L/D with me and he still says it was the worst mistake he made...he was in an uncomfortable chair and because I was on an IV AND 42 weeks PG I had to go to the bathroom every hour which meant the nurse came in, turned on all the lights, walked me to the bathroom, etc. so he didn't get a good nights sleep at all. It probably would have been better if he had gone home and the nurses called him if anything happened (we live about 15-20 minutes from the hospital). I got an Ambien so I was able to sleep pretty well aside from the bathroom trips.
If you have any other questions about being induced, let me know!

Re: Questions about getting induced...
In Good Sam, I was in labor and delivery during the Cervadil.
I didn't feel the Cervadil inside me, but I did feel my water break about 30 minutes after it was in.
I was asleep during most of my labor, so I sent DH home. However, I progressed very, very quickly - and had to wait to push until DH came back. It was actually kinda funny, because I kept calling DH on his cell phone asking where the hell he was. But, my OB said an induction usually takes 24+ hours and by hour 10, I was ready to push, so I don't think I am typical. There was a comfy lounger for DH to sleep in, so he easily could have, but I figured I would need him more when labor actually got rough - little did I know I would sleep through most of it!

I delivered at NSUH, and you will be in the same room from start to finish.
You cannot feel a thing.
Nope, have him stick around. You never know how quickly or not you will progress and you'll need him there for support. I took a long nap with DS. you might too!

Re: Questions about getting induced...
I delivered at Winthrop as well.
When I was induced, and cervadil was put in, I was in Triage. I had 2 rounds of cervadil, and they didn't really do anything for me- so when they decided that they were going to break my water, that is when they moved me to Labor and Delivery.
You definitely cannot feel the cervadil inside of you.
They can leave the cervadil inside of you for up to 12 hours each time. What we did is this. They put the cervadil in- and DH waited for a little bit- but it was also 11pm when they first started it- so at around midnight, when they told me it would be 12 hours before they checked me again, I told DH to go home, get some sleep, take a shower, relax, and come back the next morning. He came back around 8am. I was able to sleep on and off- so you might be able to sleep- and it is definitely recommended that you get some rest!
Good Luck! If you have any other questions, let me know!

Re: Questions about getting induced...
I also delivered at winthrop, but I was in labor and delivery the whole time (once I was admitted)
I got the cervadil about 6-7pm so they said they were going to check me again at 6am....I told DH to go home to rest if he wanted to (although I really wanted him to stay! lol) But he was too nervous/excited and he stayed with me. He had a comfy recliner chair and they gave him a pillow and blankets.
Once the cervadil was in I could not feel it. When they checked me in the am I was 2 cm with no contractions so they gave me another cervadil. My dr. came back about 1 in the afternoon and checked me and I was 3cm. He broke my water and I started to have contractions. DS was born that night.

Re: Questions about getting induced...
I was in L&D when they admitted me. I was a little uncomfortable when they put the cervadil in. DH stayed until about 1030. They moved me to a different L&D room in the morning (one that had a window). I stayed in that room until they determined a c-section was necessary, then it was off to the operating room.
This was at Huntington Hospital

Re: Questions about getting induced...
I was at Huntington and once admitted they put me in L&D & gave me the Cervadil. I did not feel it one bit after it was in. They had me on the monitors for 2 hours & them moved me to the maternity ward in my own room for the night.
I had started having contractions when I was still in L&D & they got really bad once I was in the maternity room. They were coming every 3-4 minutes. I finally broke down and got a shot of morphine so I could sleep. They checked me in the middle of the night and I was only 2cm's.
The next AM about 7 am they moved me to L&D, started my IV & Pitocen then gave me my epi.
DH didn't go home that night because I was in so much pain. He slept in the bed w/ me! If I wasn't having contractions I would have sent him home.
My friend went into labor just from the cervidil so it's hard to say if DH should go home or not. You may just want to be prepared either way and you can decide once your there.

Re: Questions about getting induced...
At Winthrop I was in a triage room in Labor and Delivery.
They put the Cervadil in for 12 hours. It was a little uncomfortable, but it didnt hurt. I thought it looked like a twist tie from a garbage bag. I wasn't dialated at all and they gave me another. After that still didnt work, they gave me Pitocin and I got to 3 cm and wouldnt budge, and after 36 hours of labor, we decided a c was the way to go.
I was not able to eat throughout the day - they said ice chips only.
DH should def. stick around. I was contracting the whole time and it was the worst pain ever. I can't imagine being alone for that.
Good Luck!

Re: Questions about getting induced...
Well, I was induced and was in L&D the whole time. Cervadil hurt when inserted, but after it was fine. I was already somewhat dilated, but I had it in for 12 hours which was very exhausting. After that, I was on my own for another 4 hours where I gave birth naturally.
DH should def stick around you will probably start to contract & be in pain. So you need the support. Plus you will be monitored and you’re gonna need help going to the bathroom. Good Luck!! Do some squats and try to open up your cervix.

Re: Questions about getting induced...
I was in a L & D room the whole time, though I didn't have Cervadil, they put me right on a pitocin drip.
I would ask DH to stay with you--there's no telling how quickly or slowly this will go, and they may decide to do a c-section if things aren't progressing. You'll want him with you!

Re: Questions about getting induced...
I went in to be induced on Sunday and had DD Tuesday. DH stayed the entire time except to go home and shower. I didn't feel the cervadil at all...maybe because it didn't work for me. I was in the same room in L/D until I had my c-section. Had I delivered natually it would have been in the same room. I was at Stony Brook
