questions about mommy cliques
When you meet other moms who have the same age kids as yours, do the younger and older mothers all get along? Are there cliques based on age? I'm 38 and I have no kids yet. Will I have to seek out other moms my age to make friends? I hear so much that the moms form cliques. Is it because of age? Some other reason? Is it true that the SAHM moms and the working moms often don't see eye to eye?
I want kids but I get sad when I hear about all the "mommy politics." I can be shy at first but I would certainly try to get to know other moms if I had a child.

Re: questions about mommy cliques
I'm considered "young" to have two kids and I have to admit, most of my mommy friends are older, but that's fine with me! I have a sister who's 17 years older. I'd rather have "older" friends, for the most part.

Re: questions about mommy cliques
My mommy friends range in age. I get along equally with them no matter the age. Its the children we have in common....

Re: questions about mommy cliques
My big group of Mommy friends ranges from 24 to about 39, so we are spaced out really well! We all have such a great laugh together and its great to get together with all the kiddies!!! We see each other probably most days...so its great!

Re: questions about mommy cliques
I'm friends with moms of all ages, but have a bunch of friends the same age that have older kids. We go out with them often. My mom was the youngest mom on the block and befriended everyone.
From what I've seen in my area it's SAHMs that get to know each other more because their kids are signed up to do activiites. The working moms befriend each other through the daycares and daycare events.

Re: questions about mommy cliques
I am not in a mommy "cliques", but I do have mommy friends from before and after I became pregnant and had Jordana.
I was in a playgroup with about 6 moms. I'm 30, a few women were 32 and then the rest were around 40. We all got along. I think having kids the same age is really what brought us together. I also hang out with my sister who is 2 1/2 years younger than me and DH's friend's wife (who is now a friend of mine) who is 27.
I think you will be fine. especially in the city- I felt like the youngest mom I knew in the city.

Re: questions about mommy cliques
I don't think age of moms matters. I find groups center on common ages of children and similar parenting approaches.
