Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
She completely overstepped her boundaries!!! Don't worry, it's still your job, by law they have to hold your job for you.
Congrats !!!

Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
I actually did temp work many years ago and no matter who I was covering for - the voicemail was changed to my name. If ANYONE asked what happened to the original worker, I honestly told them where they were (extended vacation, medical leave, etc...). But since I was the person they were having to deal with for 4, 6 or 8 weeks, it was my voice they heard.

Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
Why is everyone blaming the girl?
Wouldn't the boss have to give her a new password for the voicemail so she can put in her own message?

Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
Honestly I don't see anything wrong with it. I mean if someone is out for 2 months - not a week or two - it would be strange to have someone working for 2 months without having their name on the phone system. If someone called me and I got someone elses voicemail I would think I got the wrong number. I would suspect that your clients know you are out on maternity leave and therefore would expect that this person is simply your temp and not your replacement.
I know my company would expect me to change the message for the time that I am there. I would not be upset with her.
Now I would be upset if she was verbally telling people that you left and she had taken your place.

Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
just a thought, but can't you call in remotely-from home and change it back???? I know I can call from home and access my voice mail options.
I don't know if I'd be mad, but I be uneasy and wondering if I was wanted back (that's me---) by my boss and my team.

Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
IMO, the girl did nothing wrong
it would be kind of silly to get a voice mail from someone who is on maternity leave, only to get a call back from someone else

Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
That would make me mad too. I was out for 4 months and the girl covering me changed the vm to say (her name), and that she was covering for (my name).
8 weeks is a while though, so maybe she should have done that too. It depends on what kind of work you do. Where I am, people would probably still be looking for me while I was out.
ETA: Stop worrying about work and enjoy your time home with baby! It goes too fast!

Well....I think it's fine. I started a consulting job in January and I was sitting at someone's desk who was out on a medical leave. They gave me her extension, and I changed her voicemail. I was told to forward any calls that I could not help with to the boss.
When she came back to work...they moved my desk...gave me a different phone and she got hers back. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.
This is my same situation. Don't give it a second thought. I will eventually get my own desk and extension when she comes back. It was easier for me to sit at her desk, since I had to deal with files that were closer to where she sits.

Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
It would only bother me because she went though & emptied your drawers, personal files, etc.
When I was on leave, I changed my voicemail to indicate that I was on maternity leave & please contact xyz. When I came back, I had to clear out the things she left in my desk. It was annoying, but I was pretty secure that I had a job when I got back.
I think during your leave, you should bring the baby in to say hello, etc. just to p!ss her off.

Re: Questions about my Job - While I'm out on Maternity
I really wouldn't think too much about it, she may even have been instructed to change the voicemail over, so that people returning her calls wouldn't think they had the wrong extension...I wouldn't be threatened by it, the job is your when you go back.
