Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
Jacks room right now is filled with toys.
A train table that has about 100 cars/trains on it.
A huge bin of about 100 stuffed animals.
A toy chest filled with toys.
A tool bench, a shopping cart, and a shelving unit filled with misc. toys and lots of books.
What do you do with this stuff when you put your kid in a bed? I can't see Jack ever going to sleep knowing that it's like ToyLand in there? Do the kids just know not to play with the toys at bedtime? How does this work exactly?
I'm not making the switch until he turns three but I'm curious as to what the hell I have ahead of me!

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
Luckily, I was able to have a toy room when I expanded the house. The toys are in the toy room, and the bed is in the bedroom...
(I guess that's not much help for you, though.... )

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
I am going to run into the same problem so Chris will be in the crib a LONG time
I did have his toy kitchen near his crib and I feared that he would never go to sleep since the kitchen was literally RIGHT THERE
but he slept!!!!

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
I moved a lot of DD's toys into the den when she moved into her toddler bed.
Now her furniture was JUST delivered this morning, but she's been in her big girl bed a few nights now. She still has a table and chairs, toy chest, bookcase, and wall unit filled with toys and books. But when she goes to bed, she isn't interested in any of it (except the books). She gets out of bed and creeps up to our room, or lies on the floor in the hallway. She doesn't go for the toys. Maybe because it's dark?

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
I don't know-I haven't put toys in DDs room yet but once I get her bookcase and toybox I will be so I have the same concerns.
Then I remember that growing up, all my toys were in my room and I managed to sleep. We never had a playroom and there was no way my mom would let us keep toys in the living room. So, I guess it can be done. Somehow.

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
DD is not in a big girl bed yet , but the only toys in her room are:
-Her stuffed animals that are mainly in her crib -A bookshelf with books (duh! ) -And a rocking horse.
All of her toys are in the den and basement and eventually I hope to migrate all toys to the basement.

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
Christopher has toys in his room and books.
The first few naps (not at night b/c it was dark) we did find him on the floor b/c he fell asleep playing
I honestly don't have a problem with that, as long as he fell asleep (and still would sleep like 3hours, I didn't care if its on the floor or the bed)
He doesn't really nap in his room anymore (couch now) but I think he figured out bed was more comfy then the floor and realized when he was tired and got into bed

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
DS has no toys in his room. We moved them all to our bonus room and that is where he plays.

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
Thomas has books and stuffed animals but very few toys in his room. I think I read somewhere that you should limit toys in bedroom and crib so that they associate their bed/room with sleep.
We just converted his crib to toddler bed on February 7, and he (amazingly) has never gotten out of bed (yet)! Not to play, not to look for me... he just calls me like he's aways had! I wonder how long this will last!

Re: Questions about your big boy/girl rooms
we have a little bedroom with nothing in reach and no toys and a very large bedrrom with tons of toys (train table, a million cras, a million stuffed animals, kitchen, 2 ride on toys, shopping cart, packed toy chest and i can go on forever.) my older ds was going to move out of the little room and into the big room when my younger ds was born but bc of what you mentioned we chose to keep josh in the little room which is his 'sleep' room. we havethe baby in the 'play' bedroom and we will stay like this till my little one is in a bed or we get a new house with a den/playroom. josh doesn't relize he's getting the small room and loves it so it works.
