Questions for the Moms who had C-Sections and BF
I am scheduled for a c-section on Feb. 22 and I am wondering how, if at all, the surgery will affect me from BF my baby right away? Did having a C-section pose any problems with BF?
TIA

Re: Questions for the Moms who had C-Sections and BF
I had a c-section and BF my dd in the recovery room, we had no issues, but she would only latch onto my left breast in the beginning so I bf and supplemented her from day 1

Re: Questions for the Moms who had C-Sections and BF
I had a problem putting the Boppy pillow around me, as it hurt my incision. Other than that, no problems at all. I also FF and I actually found it easier than getting a bottle, pouring the formula, waiting for it to warm up, etc. Good luck!

Re: Questions for the Moms who had C-Sections and BF
not one bit...they brought him into me at about 45 min or1 hr after while i was still in recovery and he latched on right away, got some colostrum and fell back to sleep. once i went to my room they brought him up there to stay for good - i didn't send him to the nursery b/c i wanted to make sure that everythign went well with the milk coming in - it did, it took me almost a week before my full milk came in...but colostrum is best so go for it. i was on pain meds and they said they were ok to take that the baby wouldnt get much if any
good luck!!!

Re: Questions for the Moms who had C-Sections and BF
No problems at all for me. I planned to BF in the recovery room if I needed a c-section but I was shivering and shaking so much I was afraid to hold DD for too long. I BF about 4 hours later and she latched on and then fell asleep. We had some problems with her latching on for a few weeks but it had nothing to do with the c-section.
We used the football hold for the first two months and now use the cradle hold. I have been EBF for 5.5 months, DD has just about doubled her birth weight.

Re: Questions for the Moms who had C-Sections and BF
I had a c-section due to preeclampsia. As a result I was in recovery for 4 hours while my blood pressure was monitored. The hospital had a policy of not allowing babies in recovery so I didn't see DD for hours and hours.
Then there was another mix-up with bringing her to me, so she wound up getting formula for the first 12 hours.
When I finally did get the opportunity to BF, she had trouble latching on the left side, but could latch on the right side albeit incorrectly the first few times. By the second day (she was born 6:23 PM Tues, so I mean Thurs), everything was going much better and now at 10 weeks she refuses bottles.

I had no problems BF my first after a c/s. What really helped was getting the right hold - away from the incision. The football hold worked well until I could get more comfy with my incision.

You can breastfeed right away in recovery barring any issues - they thought DD might have a TE Fistula so they had to do an xray on her before she could be fed - but had that not happened the nurses told me I could have fed her when they let me hold her right after I arrived in recovery.

I had no issues BFing after a c-section. I didn't get to BF until about 2 hours after DS was born, and my milk still came in at about 3 days.

Re: Questions for the Moms who had C-Sections and BF
My baby had to go into NICU, so I was not able to BF him for the first 12 hours. I was upset, but they warned me that it could happen. They were very good letting me know all my options (good and bad) before my delivery. But I had no problems once we started to feed.

Re: Questions for the Moms who had C-Sections and BF
I had 2 c-sections and neither of my DDs had any issues BF. I did not BF either one in recovery however--wasn't a problem at all.
Good luck!!

Same here, except my c-section was not scheduled and I stopped BFing at 6 months.
