Questions when seeing a RE for the first time
OK, so my regular OBGYN ordered up an SA for DH and a full scope of bloodwork on me. She wants me doing these first and then making an appt for the RE....what happens then...if everything comes back normal what does the RE do...sorry for asking this if this has been asked already!!!
TIA!

Re: Questions when seeing a RE for the first time
I am wondering the same thing....
Sort of...
DH has known MI problems and we are going to the Urologist Thursday to find out about the results of the 2nd SA and an ultrasounds.
So then I guess we go to the RE.. But what happens???
Good Question Pickles

Re: Questions when seeing a RE for the first time
RE's aren't as scary as they sound They'll start by taking a lot of family history from both your and DHs side. They'll ask you how long you've been TTC and what methods you've used (Charting, temps, etc...) and they'll take a bunch of bloodwork. Then based on the results of the test, they'll discuss what the next options are. Make sure you're open and honest w/ them- I want a baby AsAp is much different than we're starting to try to have kids... KWIM. HTH! GL!

Re: Questions when seeing a RE for the first time
Well it all depends how much testing you have had done before you got there. For us, I had all my hormones tested, and HSG. DH had two s/a's. So on the first visit they did a basic physical and a complete history. We met with the RE and discussed our options and timeline for the first treatment. After we met with him we had a TON of bloodwork done (both of us). That's about it. If you are starting to get testing done under your OB I would make an appt with an RE. This way you won't be wasting time before you get moving with them. Good luck

Re: Questions when seeing a RE for the first time
Well, the bloodwork you get will be testing for hormones and thyroid issues. Really the best day to test for hormones is CD3, so an RE will want you in on that day to get both bloodwork and an ultrasound to check your ovaries and lining in your uterus.
My first RE appointment DH and and I gave our histories and I got about 8 vials of blood drawn. I went back on CD3 and got blood and sono, and then we went from there.

Re: Questions when seeing a RE for the first time
If you have to see an RE you will be SO thankful that you did!! I was very nervous when I was first referred but it's the BEST thing I ever did. If you're having trouble conceiving you will find they are far more knowledgeable than your OB/GYN, they will discuss many options available to you that you may not have known of, and they will be on top of your care 24/7. I felt so relieved seeing an RE, I felt like I was being proactive with my health and they really knew exactly what to do with us to get us pregnant. After trying off and on for years with no luck we are now about 15 weeks pregnant after seeing the RE for just 3 months!! It was the best thing I ever did!!
Lots of luck to you!!!!!!!!

Re: Questions when seeing a RE for the first time
Thanks ladies. I'm getting bloodwork done for FSH, LH, Testosterone, Estradiol, Prolactin and DHEAS...No clue what some of these are and an SA for DH. The Dr did say she would also probably want me to get an HSG first just to rule out any blockages...does that sound about right...the bloodwork on CD3 is that other blood work in addtion to what I'm already getting?
Thanks again so much for all your help!!!!!

Re: Questions when seeing a RE for the first time
The one I made the appt with said it's just a consult. I guess from there she will determine what needs to be tested.
