Quick Disney transport question
Quick question that I can't find the answer to anywhere online:
We're staying at the Boardwalk Villas. I know we can walk to Epcot, and I also know that you can get from Epcot to MK by monorail.
So.... doesn't it stand to reason that we can get to MK by monorail? Even if it requires a lot of walking? Or is that not a feasible option?
I ask because it's never listed as real option; it always just says that transport to MK is by bus.
So what is faster?
Yes I'm trying to get out of taking the bus.
TIA!

Re: Quick Disney transport question
Bus is MUCH faster and you will need a parkhopper ticket to get to MK by monorail
Boardwalk is near the rear - International Gateway - entrance to EPCOT so you'd have to enter there, walk through the entire park (10min), get on the monorail, take it to the TTC and SWITCH to the Express monorail. It would take you I'd say minimally 30-45min, and that's walking at a fast pace knowing exactly where you're going and if the monorail comes right away. The bus will be 15-20 min. I haven't done Boardwalk but I found that the bus service from BC was great
ETA: it would be 20 minutes just of walking, then you'd have to wait for the monorail twice, and very often walk down the ramp at the TTC and walk back up the ramp for EPCOT. if you hate the bus you can do it, but I think the bus is faster and easier.

We stayed at the boardwalk in 2010. Great hotel great location. We walked to Epcot, you enter near England I believ. The monorail is near the front half of the park. I was 20 weeks pregnant and had my then 3yo with us and we did that often to get to mk. It worked great, but you have to have the park hopper.

Re: Quick Disney transport question
DH and I actually do it that way quite often. We think it's a nice leisurely way to start our day. We've also done Epcot in the mornings, hopped on the monorail and gone straight to MK for fireworks.
Like everyone else said, you need a parkhopper.

Re: Quick Disney transport question
Ah, if you need a hopper, that explains why it's not really an "official" path to the park.
It seems strange that you can't access the monorail from outside Epcot. I mean, the monorail wouldn't deposit people directly IN the park because they might not have tickets/hoppers, so you would think you could also get to it from outside the park.
(I'm not doubting anyone, just thinking out loud as I try to picture it. )
Thanks all!

The monorail IS outside the park, but it's outside the front/main entrance.
To access it from the Beach Club/Boardwalk area you have to enter the park at the rear entrance, walk the length of the park and exit through the main entrance.

Re: Quick Disney transport question
So you're entering the park on the middle right. If you look carefully you can see the gap between countries where the boat is, that's the International gateway entrance, then you walk to the opposite corner of the map, down past spaceship earth (big golfball) to exit the park at the main entrance and get the monorail right outside that gate.
See now why it's not an official path? it's a long walk, and yes, you need a hopper.
ETA: It's confusing because EPCOT is the only park with 2 entrances
ETA: You also need to SWITCH monorails, and they are NOT on the same track, so you have to go down and come back up. I thought I would do that when I stayed at Beach Club, but I just took the bus.

You can access the monorail from outside Epcot - but it's not convenient if you want to do that to go to another park. You have to go to the front of Epcot, go through the baggage check area and instead of turning towards the park turnstyles, head up the ramp. Like I said, it doesn't make any sense.

Re: Quick Disney transport question
I'm not sure why you'd want to be outside of EPCOT's Main gate if you don't have tickets. There's not exciting there. Some benches, dirty bathroom, guest services. LOL
At Disneyland the monorail goes inside the park, so I can see that as an option, but it's not the case at WDW. The stations are outside of the parks.

Re: Quick Disney transport question
I gotcha - so there's no real pedestrian pathway there. Makes sense. Thanks!

Jenn, there is a pedestrian pathway! Right next to the boats is where you would walk in from Boardwalk.
I'm not sure what you're asking,

No there is no pathway to the front of EPCOT without going through the parks. The parks are actually much bigger than they look most people in the parks walk 5-10 or more miles a day. You can do what you propose by going to the international gateway then walking through the park then hopping the monorail, changing at the TTC. Much easier to take the bus. Those hotels are better for people who want to spend the most time at HS and EPCOT. The only way I would recommend doing that is if you are in EPCOT for the day and then hit the monorail to the MK but not from the hotel.

Re: Quick Disney transport question
I have monorailed from monorail resorts to EPCOT, done a few rides, walked through, and then taken the boat to DHS. I've also done a few rides at EPCOT and then monorailed to MK. I've never just walked completely through EPCOT w/o stopping
