Quitting smoking

I am ready to quit. I cut down last week to 5 a day then 4 a day and then yesterday I had only 3. I am not using any type of prescription or patch.

Does it make sense to quit all together now? They say you shuld not quit cold turkey.

I am so glad I am quitting! I will be able to work out hard core like I used to and get back in shape, be healthier and not have to worrt about smelling like a cigarette! Chat Icon Chat Icon

If cutting back one a day is working for you than I would continue doing it.

I heard people do it this way and I heard people quit cold turkey. Either way you do, be proud of yourself for quiting!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Quitting smoking

Congrats!! You're doing very well so far. I quit cold turkey four years ago. It sounds like right now you're in the perfect mindset to quit cold turkey. If you think you can do, then go for it!

Good luck!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I quit by cutting back slowly. Then if I really wanted one here and there I'd have ONE...eventually I got to the point where I didn't even want one at all ... even while drinking!

Re: Quitting smoking

good for you Vee! quit now while you still can! i quit cold turkey about 3 years ago.

SIL's fiance is using Chantix which is a pill he takes (i think) 3 times a day for 6 months or something like that. her friends husband used it too and he was able to just stop and never go back to it.

good luck!Chat Icon

Congratulations!!!! You have to use whatever method works for you. I was only able to quit when I did it cold turkey. Once I had made up my mind that it was over, it was not as hard as I thought it was going to be.

Re: Quitting smoking

Good for you!! You should try to drop them all together now. 3 a day is nothing, I'm sure you will barely miss it (except for those times that affect all ex-smokers -- the urge never goes away completely). Cold turkey is the only way that ever worked for me on any kind of long-term basis.

Me and my DH both used to socially smoke, and one day we just stopped cold turkey and never started again. It's been about 2 years and we are even nauseated by the smell of smoke.

Re: Quitting smoking

i cut down until i was at one a day - then i would try to make it later and later in the day bc i knew once i had THAT one - i couldnt have any more. . .

well eventually i would "wait" for so long - the day would be over and I wouldn't have one all day!

i know cold turkey works for some people too - good luck!

ETA: one OTHER good thing about the one a day thing - the cigarettes get SO STALE that i would take one or two drags and they would be so gross i wouldn't be able to finish and i was too cheap to buy a new pack when I had so many left in the old one!
