Quitting the Sippy Cup

DS is 4 years old and has been drinking from a straw sippy cup since about a year. Never thought about until we were at a playdate and noticed the other kids were drinking from a kid-friendly plastic cup.

DS knows how to drink from a regular cup (he uses one at preschool during snack) but I'm wondering if a sippy is too baby-ish?

But, I still like the cap on a sippy cup because we still spill drinks. Chat Icon

Quitting the Sippy Cup

How about switching to sports bottles. I didn't like how the straw sippies would get so at 3 I started switching to the sports bottle. I like the ones they sell at old navy cause I feel they last. I also find the hero ones on sale at target.

Try the straw ones made by same brands that make sippy cups. I guess 4 is getting up there for a sippy cup

Quitting the Sippy Cup

Ds is 3.5 and drinks milk 2x a day from straw cups. I have no intention of getting rid of them because he uses them in the living room and I dont want them spilling. He drinks from open cups, sports bottles and a straw thermos as well.

I don't think there's anything wrong with giving him the straw sippy. As long as he knows how to drink from a regular cup, if it is better for you to give him the straw, do it. You can give him the open cup at mealtimes while he's at the table. My DD is 8, and I don't let her leave the kitchen with an open cup.
